Insider Windows 11 Insider Canary Build 25393.1 (23H2) - June 14

UPDATE 7/12:

(No blog post)

New Widget: Focus Session

We are beginning to roll out a new Focus Session widget as part of a Clock app update (version 11.2305.6.0 and higher) via the Microsoft Store to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels. With this new widget, you will be able to quickly start and stop focus sessions on your device.

The new Focus Session widget.

The new Focus Session widget.

[We are beginning to roll this out, so the experience isn’t available to all Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels just yet as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before pushing it out to everyone.]

If, in fact, Canary will morph to Windows 12 development I can wait.

No issues to report in Dev build 23486.1000 so far.
This is pretty good, considering Explorer is now UWP.
But Canary has been really stable as well. I expect that to change soon.

I'm ready if MS releases a new build this week. I made my image last Thursday. I haven't done anything new that needs to be backed up so the computer is ready to upgrade.

Yes I am ready as well. Two VMware VMs, one Pro, one Windows 11 For Workstations, both on resume and snapshot made. It is now two weeks since the last Canary build. Plenty of time to do stuff with the Manjaro host and multiple Linux guests. Once again QEMU/KVM shows as not connected. I could spend my time troubleshooting with chatGPT, but if not "amazing" comes of the next Canary build I don't know what I will do. Clean install means re=actovatomg Windows and Take Command 30. I want to make tcc.exe my command spec but other than that ...

Only a security update for Pro, nothing for Workstation. Probably nothing until after the 4th - maybe next Weds, the 5th. Now I'm am hoping there is NOT a new build for awhile - likely an announcement for "Windows 12" development?

Hi there

I'm not sure why your KVM shows "Not connected" -- works fine on Fedora, Debian and ArchLinux,

I think somewhere you've got the permission wrong -- you need to enable for normal user these 3 items

1) Add yourself to the group libvirt

2) edit /etc/libvirt/libvirtd : uncomment these 2 lines

this one around line 80 :
unix_sock_group = "libvirt" (otherwise libvirt restricted to root)

and this one around line 115

unix_sock_rw_perms = "0770"

and 3) If you still get no connectivity when opening the VM main menu just create NEW VM and set as User connection (shouldn't be necessary though).

No problems with Windows guests running on any of these hosts on my systems.

(One Fedora update broke the USB re-direction but that's all working in kernel 6.4.x).

Note also for Windows Guests on KVM install the virtio tools (available from fedora site as an iso or your distro's repositories). Install these of course on the GUEST Windows VM. !!!

If you need a tpm for a Windows the IBM virtual TPM emulator (swtpm etc) should work on most distros - set to hypervisor default --version 2 in the VM's config - use the Virtual machine manager GUI - it's simpler than editing XML files with NANO.

If you pass thru a physical TPM to your Windows guest set the tpm as /dev/tpm0

Hello,
I also decided at least for the time being to switch back to the developer build because quite frankly I felt as though the canary build wasn't really offering anything I was interested in at least at the present time.

I don't want to make an NTFS partition on my remaining SSD with Manjaro. I can;t justify it.
Do you have about 64GB free space on any existing partition? Then that's more than enough for a native boot .vhdx file.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I think that the next Windows release is going to focused more on security then it will be on new features. I also wonder what the minimum device requirements will be to run it.
