Windows 11 is awful

If people don't like or don't want to use Win11 there's other choices -- Even (Cr-)Apple stuff.
It's not that hard to get Win11 to work reasonably if you aren't say an extreme gamer or using specialized hardware -- and if you prefer Win 10 etc you can run them until "The end of the Universe" as a VM.

Most problems seem to arise from people using inappropriate Anti Virus software on new experimental W11 builds, using dubious software / web sites, using these builds for their ordinary day to day work or just tinkering with Windows settings without understanding what they are doing.

I prefer Linux but I rarely have "Unsolvable" Windows problems -- usually these arise fom Ms's defects in the newer builds. Sticking to the bog standard builds for your normal work alleviates most if not all of "Unsolvable" problems.

The main area I find Windows still to be acting as a Lottery is in the area of Networking -- otherwise on the whole it just works OOB.

i have to admit i much prefer Linux over Windows but every computer in the house runs Win11 (2 desktops, 3 laptops).
i moved back to Windows after Ubuntu 24.04, when Debian state dont install ubuntu Repro's on Debian then you know there is a problem.

but Windows works for most of the people much of the time ..

Indeed, just like that latest update, I started a game and it was lagging like hell, it felt like 2-3 fps.
I applied tweaks, restarted and it is running buttery smooth. 11 really, really lacks the optimization.

W11 hardware requirements are a bit stringent for some,
security is somewhat over the top in some areas,
the native Explorer SDK is a mess...,
other than that, with a couple 3rd party utilities and a few reg tweaks, W11 is super smooth and fast.

Windows version this days (well, close to 2 decades) - are more like Service/Feature Packs. All the new stuff included (mainly U.I. changes and couple of extra features) - is basically built on top of the old version of Windows . Replacing the file version ofc - but for most part - it's still the same old same old. And that's why it's so easy to patch the U.I. and revert the appearance - even to a Windows Vista style (via OpenShell, RetroBar, etc).

Until Microsoft will do a rework of Windows - finally cleaning the old cod (at this point in time - there's a carpet in Windows - which seems to be placed on top of a dune you'd have to climb over - from all the old code dusted underneath) - this versions of Windows are more like a marketing gimmick. Like tuning the appearance of an old car (while some of its components are rather rusty - just painted on top) - and sold as a New Car. Seriously, the shift from Windows 10 to Windows 11 - is barely starting to get more noticeable this year - with the upcoming release where the support for older CPU architecture is dropped (hardcoded not just optional - as was the case with all the other Windows builds up to current one). Maybe Co-Pilot A.I. will have a saying as well - but for now it's still optional - so it doesn't really make much difference (not a forced/active feature - your hardware has to deal with).

Who knows what form that may come in, perhaps the Windows App as the UI, sending us to a Cloud based OS?
Whatever it is, zero control for the user and total mayhem.

I liked the good ole days where you didn't actually need an internet connection to work on your PC...,
but, you had to install Encyclopedia Britannica onto your PC via 7 DVD's!!!

Folks have been predicting a Windows 12 for who knows how long now. They can’t even get that prediction correct.

Android and iOS have the advantages of coming along much later and being for specific sets of devices. Even iPads don’t run iOS anymore. Windows has many more years of backwards compatibility to maintain; some people have been using Windows for as long as 3, 4 years now at least.

MSFT would have to start a new OS to create an iOS or Android equivalent. They tried that many moons ago, but that was under different leadership.

My rambling aside, Windows 10X would have been interesting. I would have liked to see the state separation between user and system.

We tend to forget. When XP went by the wayside. I bypassed Vista, but bitched and griped for 6 months, hating on 7, but I adjusted, put in my time learning it, and 7 became the best OS ever, I thought. Then came 8-8.1 fiasco.... oops..let's not even go there. Moving on. 10 happened and I bitched and carried on for a while about that, but I dug in my heels again, read every tutorial Brink wrote, and put forth the effort to learn it. It then took top spot from 7. Along came 11, more bitching, but the transition wasn't as much of a shock going from 10 to 11 because of all that time I spent learning 10.

I've wasted a lot of time over the years bitching and griping only to raise my blood pressure and wear on the patience of members of 7, 8, 10, and 11 forums... and my husband. Once I accepted that whether I liked it or not, Windows is always going to keep evolving with or without me, I became slightly more pleasant..... OK, OK...I still bitch and gripe but I'm a woman and that's what I'm supposed to do. But I also still put in a lot of effort to learn, adapt, and change with the times. When I can no longer accept that challenge, it's time for me to hang it up and take up knitting.
For the most part, 11 is great IMO.

Or as it was then called in those days a part of Ms Office "Word for Windows" - installed from a set of 32 floppy disks and usually on disk nr 31 you got I/O error !!!/
