Windows 12 ! Already....

That's why I appreciate this forum. Nobody knows everything but most of the time I can find my answers here, or on the other forums established by the same people from Windows 7 on up. Plus I've made friends here, like minded individuals, who share similar interests and challenges. I also enjoy the level of maturity among members of this forum. I don't get trolled here for asking academic questions and sometimes I even help others, which feels absolutely awesome! :)

I Googled xpforums for fun and yes, the same guys also have a Windows XP forum explaining how to keep using it today and even force install it on relatively modern hardware, as long as it boots in Legacy BIOS mode (CSM).

One thing I can say about Win XP is I haven't seen another Windows OS that can boast this level of stability. Windows 7 came the closest but it took a while to get there. Alas, those days are gone. The irony is that Win XP is probably more secure than the rest because hardly anyone uses it anymore! Have I said too much already?

I have an XP virtual machine just in case I want to play with it and remember the good old days. Latest Chrome for XP has trouble opening some sites. Use latest Firefox (version 52) instead, it can still open almost everything. So you can still use XP for surfing, downloading, Netflix and casual gaming.

Good ole Firefox. That browser was instrumental in my getting online when Win ME was discontinued. Pretty much my favourite browser. :)

I don't like Firefox because it originated from Unix and I don't like Unix or Linux. I was exclusively using Internet Explorer since up to 2020 there was no site it couldn't open. Now I have switched to Microsoft Edge since I would like to avoid Firefox or Chrome. I use Firefox to watch Netflix on my second monitor while working on the primary one. Netflix app and Edge or Chrome display a black screen as copy protection if you try to cast wirelessly or try watching on a secondary monitor. Thankfully Firefox doesn't suffer from this nonsense. Only drawback is that quality is limited to 720p. Any workaround to enable 1080p and 4K in Firefox appreciated.

I think it really is a matter of user preference. Then again, I do like Linux. Evidently, Microsoft also likes Linux because they are in fact the Linux Foundation's chief contributor. Being the old hack that I am, I'm not overly concerned with WiFi and I refuse to use it in my home. My network is hard wired. Admittedly, I do use VLC Media Player. I don't bother with Netflix or television because the content IMO is simply not worth the cost. Despite all this I don't fit the cable cutter category either because my internet is accessed via a cable modem. Direct Ethernet is simply not available in the very isolated community where I live. I'm just glad I don't have to depend on Satellite or dial up due to my isolation. My cable company does tend to badger me now and then about not using their television options but I don't own a television and have no intentions of getting one. I have access to all the media I need online. I am old and my eyes aren't what they used to be so even though I use a 4K monitor the benefits of having one are negligible. So again, for me, Firefox is fine.

No cable for me either. A friend of mine lets me use her Hulu. . That's all I need from September to May. . . Other than that, my brother shares his ESPN+ with me for college baseball. . And there are streaming sites out there as well. . Plus I have tons of movies & TV Shows that I can re-watch. . . lol

Windows 12 is one thing, but here in the UK we are a highly superstitious lot and I can't see anybody in the UK ever upgrading to Windows 13

Probably there will be no Windows 13, they are going to call it Windows 12.1 or wait a little longer and release Windows 14 stating that the features of 13 are in 14 plus more.

Knowing Microsoft’s naming “technique”, they will probably go to just “Windows” or something.. or Windows one.

Im not looking forward to having to install Win “12” unless microsoft magically make it par with windows 7’s goodness.
I haven’t liked windows 8,8,1,10, or 11 as much as 7 so……… 12 better be good.

MS will make it worse in fact, win32 desktop programs will be containerized to run as store apps.
In other words Windows is going to become one huge pile of virtual environment.
