Windows 11
Hi everyone,

I've gotten awesome help before, so I thought I post here again :)

Bought an Intel NUC, brand new. Works fine, I can even game on it with no problems.

But recently, I've noticed Windows just shuts down seemingly randomly. I was able to replicate once situation, which was when I was on a website and trying to edit something.

What can I do to fix this, or to monitor what's causing the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Random shutdowns can be caused by a variety of hardware and/or software issues. The easiest way to start is to go look under Event Viewer > Windows Logs. You can look under Application or System and see if you can see something being logged at the approx time of one of these random shutdowns. Although if not experienced enough you might have troubles viewing these logs.
Outside of this you might try running a memory diagnostics utility to test ram. Check CPU temps. Update Video driver.
Random shutdowns can be troublesome to find a culprit.

Okay, I am able to replicate the issue.
From the Event Viewer > Windows Logs here is what I see. Red highlights is what happens after the shutdown issue (meaning before red highlight, everything is fine)

Seems to be too many duplicate "Windows Error Reporting" all at the same time. You can click on each one for more info. I will say however I have no idea if that is a possible issue or not.

I ran the test, however, after logon there was no notification displayed.
However, in the event viewer, I see the following. I assume means memory is fine?

This is what I see. I tried figuring out what those are but no luck. Installed drivers from PC manufactured, etc. but still there.

I was away from my desk for a few minutes. After I came back, I saw that the computer had shut down (NOTE: while no software/program was running; basically just idle).

In the event viewer, I see this which has to be the issue, right? I've seen the seem error message before when I have experienced the random shut down.

This is a brand new system.

I have still a few days left via their return policy.

What's your opinion, is this a settings issue or should I return everything?

On second thought it just occurred to me the the intel utility may void your warranty, but it will give you a warning box first so you could still use it to see how hot the cpu is. It's possible the heatsink wasn't installed properly. If you have to clock it down a lot then I'd consider returning it.

Thanks, I understand. I am just wondering should I even bother fixing these issues? I still have a few days left to return the system.

Can't install. Both versions say "unsupported platform".

There are other apps to monitor cpu temp. You may have to google around to find one. But to clock the cpu lower you will have to use the bios. But again if it's that hot just sitting there then probably the heatsink isn't making good contact with the cpu.

I'd say first find out how hot the cpu is. And how much work the cpu is doing to cause that heat.

Doesn't that show the heat, the 383K can be converted to celsius? This was the random shutdown while idle with no load, no program running.

Error.webp

In the MyASUS app, I see the CPU temp usually somewhere between 60-80C, while the often below 10% CPU load.

There could be something running, like defender or some windows service. And I don't think those are temps, but error codes or something.

Ok use the asus app to see the temp and correlate with the cpu load in task manager. But 60-80C at 10% load seems like something is wrong to me. Above 80C is where you will start getting problems, or at least it's where I start getting problems, so I try to keep it below 80c at max load.

I can only say what the error messages say, and all of those say 383k

Either way, it's way too hot. Either it's overclocked or the heatsink isn't making sufficient contact or there is something wrong with the cpu. How fast is the cpu? What model is it? Can you post a screenshot of your system specs?
