I would use Diskpart's Clean All command (make sure you have the right disk), then format it and start using it again.
The Clean All command will erase (write zeros to), the disk.

It starts with a Full Image, then immediately does 5 Incrementals after it supposely finished the Full Image backup, says Last Backup has Stopped,it will restart at 12;51 if i was doing it now, then proceeds to do 5 in a row, then it says Last backup has failed

Same thing on all 3 Computers

Will try the diskparts clean All command soon as i have the drive reconnected to Desktop, maybe even before bed

Quick Format? or Full Format?

So Select The largest disk listed in Diskpart, then type in Clean All (Correct) This one is 8TB, so don't think i can mix it up with any of the Desktop Internal drives lol, and all other externals will be disconnected prior to running the command

Full format. That seems to be recommended most often.

Ok full format will be done asap here, now if i can get this other External to eject, Stupid Sabrent Enclosure refusing to Eject currently lol, oh well fixes that shortly here

Yeah, full format after Diskpart's Clean All.

/edit After Clean All, you could probably do a quick format, but I would just start a full format and go to bed or work or whatever.

The bootable media of Acronis True image is made to create and restore images of disks and partitions well. Whereas Macrium Reflect is made to give me useless bloat well. The rest I simply don't care, and don't care because I don't have to.

Just because I am quoting you like this, doesn't also mean that I am replying to you. Rather, I am merely pointing out to the OP that the bootable media of Acronis True Image is what I use and recommend for making an image of a Windows installation.

I had the same problem and got poor support from Acronis

As for making backups of personal files on an external storage. You don't need any imaging software whatsoever for that. Heck, most users don't actually even need any backup software for it either. Use the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) to avoid problems when possible to avoid.

I use FastCopy in Diff mode. It's just a simple copy tool. Others use FreeFileSync, but FastCopy can be used from the command line, which also means that it is possible to use FastCopy within RealTimeSync, a feature of FreeFileSync.

While the speed improvement that can be had with FastCopy is nice to have, the main reason why I use it is twofold. Firstly, all the other copy tools tend to flake out when copying very large amounts of data with them. Secondly, it has per-file error logging with full UNICODE support and supports long pathnames, but it also gives the option to calculate and write file hash codes to the log file during the copying of the files.

So, I don't have to waste time and storage bandwidth letting all the data be read again to calculate file hash codes after the copy task has been completed, when instead it is possible to let them be calculated during the copy task. For critical data, the FcHash.exe tool that comes included with FastCopy is what I'll use to re-calculate these file hash codes on both the target and the source, as that's the only way to really be close to 100% sure that the files match.

So, I just need to be sure that the right files are copied, and are copied correctly, with no errors in them. But when there are errors, I also want to know exactly what are the files that failed to copy, and usually I also want to know this fairly immediately after it happens. Because, after there were no errors, that's when I want to physically unplug the external HDD (physically unplug it, both from the computer and from the wall...) and move it to a safe spot away from the computer. Because, if I don't do it like this, then I simply have no backup at all.

That's just because a backup copy on a portable external drive isn't a reliable backup until after it has been verified and moved to a safe spot. Similarly, moving the backup away from the safe spot causes it to stop being a reliable backup. Though usually, it will still be possible to move the external drive back to the same safe spot or to a different one, e.g. after a re-verification of the data on it. The need to periodically re-verify each copy is one important reason why you need to have more than just a single copy, if the goal is to have actual backups as opposed to only have copies.

BTW, I also use FastCopy to copy image files to multiple external HDDs. Just because they are image files, doesn't also mean that there cannot or should not be a reason to treat them the same way as any other types of files. The thing about files is that files can be copied. There's the KISS principle again.

Yeah I probably should keep it more simple, as I got music albums, over 30 of them I got for free when had Windows phone. And old Vhs captured tv show that is no longer on, captured years ago when tapes was very good quality still

You cannot say Macrium Reflect is going offbeam just because you do not like the new commercial terms.

The tool is still as superbly reliable and supported as we have always expected.

You also made a statement the other day that free Hasleo has all Reflect's features.

This is not true - in particular Hasleo does not have Reflect's Macrium Image Guardian malware protection tool, or very useful Macrium ViBoot facility to load images as a virtual machine.

So please, be more accurate in future i.e. free Hasleo has most of paid Macrium Reflect's features and is a good alternative to other free imaging tools.

What new commercial terms? The last I heard Macrium still plan to offer a one off payment for Reflect v9 probaly discounted for existing users like me.

Ofc not. Hasleo backups have AES encryption, which also protects the backups, which is what's important.

No matter how many times discussions about any software arise, I will still be of the opinion that "too much" is a bad thing. These days most of the bigger software companies, try to squeeze everything AND the kitchen sink, into their products. THEN... they start raising the prices.

It's like the old adage... "the more moving parts, the easier it is to break".

I continue to use Macrium, (as I mentioned), but I still don't like the direction it's headed.
Same with Bitdefender, Zonealarm, CCleaner, and Windows 11 for that matter... too many moving parts.

H*ll, even MS can't keep up with the monster that is Windows 11.

Adding extra things to software is a good thing, up to a point.
Go past that point, and things start to get "bloated", less efficient, harder to maintain and more costly.

The most important thing is that this is MY "opinion", and it's not gonna change because someone on a forum disagrees. I've seen this same kind of thing happen over and over to most decent software and even to hardware, over the years.

JV16 Power Tools was another great program back in the day. Then they started adding too much junk to it.

...BUT, it only protects them from content access, it will not protect them from RansomeWare, which is the main function of MIG by Macrium (which I don't use, BTW ).

Mostly it does. It won't stop ransomware, but wi5th the backup software's bootable media, you'll still be able to access your encrypted backups. After restoring one of those backups, the ransomware will be gone.

Now there are a few types of ransomware that are lodged so deeply in the system... like the BIOS, that Image Guardian or encryption won't be able to mitigate. We need to rely on MS, Intel, AMD and AMI for protections from things like that.



An example...

Back when Black Lotus (ransomware), made it's debut, MS's "revocations" broke a lot of bootable media, which included Macrium's bootable media. Fortunately, Macrium came up with a solution, really quickly.

Here's a summary...




As far as I know, the MS "revocations" and Macrium's media building tool, contend with all this, behind the scenes... now.

Not to Mention the last Acronis level support person setup the scheduling page in German lol.

Attempted 5 times to schedule next session lol, and still says Booking could not be completed due to communication issue, please try again later lol

((held off on Desktop clean install for time being, but at some point gonna do one to have a completely clean Windows 11 Pro install--possibly without Acronis lol depending how rest of this support goes or how long it takes them to fix the issue lol

Hi bikemanI7,
I have had similar problem and discovered that the culprit was MalwareBytes, in my case. If you are running MalwareBytes, quit it and try the backup again. My problem solved this way. I have open ticket with Acronis and MalwareBytes about this.
