Acronis Failing backups since upgrading to True Image 2025

I had had the same issue with Acronis on older versions with backups failing, it never has been very reliable. About 10 years ago I switched to Macrium free at first then went for the paid version and have never had a backup fail since. I wouldn't use anything else and if I HAD to absolutely use another backup software , Acronis would not even be on the list .... besides it has become so over bloated with needless crap bundled in

The problem could be with Malwarebytes. When I used it a couple years ago, it drastically slowed down my 3 different VPN’s. Contacted them and their solution? Buy THEIR VPN offering! Uninstalled and haven’t looked back.

Acronis True Image 2025 was still having trouble creating a backup after 4 hours so I stopped it and deleted the backup files again. I then disabled Malwarebytes Premium. I started all the backups again. All the backups finished successfully about 7am this morning.

Later today when I have time I am going to contact Acronis support and open a ticket.
For what it's worth, I checked up on the backups that were "stopped by user" by validating them. All the backups were in fact OK. Looking at the True image Activity tab showed that the software had indeed completed a backup. It seems as if Malwarebytes somehow stopped True Image from flipping to the Validation process and the software just stalled with the "stopped by user" message and an indication that it would begin again in minutes. It was at that precise stage that I stopped the process, started a "validate the latest backup" which proved to be valid. Prior to that, I didn't feel that the backups could be trusted, but I was wrong in my misgivings. Acronis is aware of these details.

Excellent details there, probably wasted my time doing a chkdsk a few days ago, then a few days later DiskPart Clean All of My WD My Book 8TB Drive, and Full format, but at least the drive is all cleaned up now lol.

Even Clean Installed My Gaming Laptop with Windows 10 other night lol, i was like if this doesn't fix it, then will maybe find the cause lol.

Despite the system is older than my newer 2024 Ryzen based Desktop, it still was pretty quick to finish the whole process lol, then again wasn't much installed on Gaming Laptop

Windows 10 Home
Windows Defender
Malwarebytes 5 Premium
VLC Media Player 64bit
Discord
MS Office 365
Epic Games--(2 Games--Lawn Mower Simulator & 9-1-1 Operator lol
((may still install Secondlife on that PC, up til they discontinue support for the version that PC can run lol))
Acronis True Image 2025 Subscription

(Main Desktop has alot more installed, but probably still be as quick as Gaming Laptops Clean install whenever i eventually get done on this one in the future lol)

And at least i know Acronis is aware of the details now, plus i sent in email update on my case as well explaining my findings yesterday, no reply back on my case yet though lol

I submitted a ticket to Acronis. As expected my Acronis System Report was too large so I couldn't submit it yet. I have done this before so expect them to contact me and provide me with alternative way to send them my Acronis System Report.

BTW, I realize I am not the OP but since we may have the same problem with Acronis True Image 2025 it may be of benefit to post in the same thread toward a solution that will benefit both of us.

Completely Fine with me if use same Thread, as i welcome any info that arrives at final solution, so all software works properly again together lol.

Then once final solution is confirmed and all set, then i may do Main Desktops clean install lol, possibly even on my smaller Boot M.2, and make the current 1TB boot M.2 Game NVMe (Not my preferred game NVMe, but guess Kingston NV2 1TB model will be fine til Christmas when i can get a second cruical or Samsung Drive lol

Black Friday deals soon !!!!!

These chips are also becoming cheaper as Chinese economy is rolling back and they'll encourge more exporting and cheaper deals. Can't be far off now having affordable M2 4TB NVme's (SSD type) too. Main problem is heat in having so many components in a small area.

Glad all fixed now.

For those who are experiencing backup failures using Acronis true Image 2025 who are also running Malwarebytes Premium (not sure if relevant for the free version), quit Malwarebytes and the backup again should work.
It appears that malwarebytes does not like TrueImageHomeservice.exe file. Placing this as an "allow" i.e. exclusion in Malwarebytes did not work for me.
I "upgraded" from Acronis Cyberprotect to Acronis 2025 so I'm not sure if the backup issue happens with other 2025 installations but if it does the "fix" may well work.
My first attempts to solve the problem included a repair to the install, a clean reinstall and then opening a ticket with Acronis. Subsequently I saw a Windows Event Application log error flagging TrueImageHomeservice.exe and a Malwarebytes dll file. This is what led me to quit Malwarebytes and retry the backups. If I'd been wider awake, I may have noticed the Event log warning earlier.
I have opened tickets both with Acronis and Malwarebytes on the issue and will post further information as it comes in.

Hi folks

All these posts suggst just K.I.S.S (Keep it Short and Simple). For most Home users there's really no reason to use any 3rd party A/V software other than WD which works as well as any of them. What now (although in the past was excellent) does Malwarebytes or any other 3rd party DOMESTIC ( excluding corporations and work place office infrastructure) bring to the table any more. Those old software A/V systems were based on previous versions of Windows where security was a 100% joke if it even existed.

Most A/V 3rd party software on domestic Windows either hobbles the performance of the machine or gets in the way of legitimate 3rd party software which might need access to "privileged execution" in the kernel.

I'm not endorsing Acronis or any other backup product but I'd bet 90% of the problems with this type of software is due to 3rd party A/V software sticking its oar in the way of a legitimate application which does need to operate outside a "normal user space".

Cheers

I certainly understand your point of view but must say that my experience with Malwarebytes and Acronis over a long time has been without problems. Software complexity is bound to result in occasional discombobulations among running programmes, part of what makes life and problem solving interesting.

Ron

Backup and recovery issues is why I broke down many months ago, and bought both a sata and m.2 duplicators, got them both for under $200.00 US on Amazon, have never had any issues with them.

Reason i still use Malwarebytes 5 Premium myself is i'm a old school thinker and felt to be fully safe i still needed Malwarebytes with Windows Defender like i did in eariler years of Windows

Anyways i trust the software engineers will get the underlying issue fully patched/fixed eventually, meanwhile just have to be patient, product support with all the info i can, and guess go from there

My Gaming Laptop i used as a test machine other night

Did a Complete Clean Install
Installed all the drivers
Installed Windows updates
Restarted of course
Installed Malwarebytes 5 Premium
Then Installed Acronis True Image cleanly--Issue still happened lol soon as i tried first backup on that machine lol, so guess even affects clean installs of Acronis True Image, and not just the upgraded versions from Cyberprotect
Quitted Malwarebytes as next step--then backup did finish successfully

I got so close to doing clean install of everything on Main Desktop, but then i was like nah i'll wait a bit longer

I have 5 computers with ATI 2025. Some computers have only weekly full disk backups while others have both daily folder and weekly full disk backups. There is a difference between them
Full backup: Series consists of 1 full backup + 3 incremental. All backups in series are in one ".tibx" file.
Folder backup: Series consists of 1 full backup + 3 incremental. Each backup in series is in individual ".tib" file.

Note after I create System Reports for all my computers I am going to delete all the problematic backups and create new ones with Malwarebytes not running. That is because I don't trust the contents of any of these backup.

I am getting confusing results. Here is a summary.

ATI 2025 Results.jpg

Backups for Desktop #3 with Malwarebytes Free running:

Full disk backup of disk #1 succeeded.
Full disk backup of disk #2 failed

Note it appears that one backup attempt failed and was started again. It failed again after the seconds attempt.
This makes no sense because there should only have been one ".tibx" file.

PH1.jpg

Backups for Desktop #3 with Malwarebytes Free not running:

Full disk backup of disk #2 now succeeded

The original two ".tibx" files are the same but a new ".tibx" file was created. Note that both the 1st and 3rd ".tibx" files have the same date and time.

PH2.jpg

Backups for Laptop #2 with Malwarebytes Premium running

Note it appears that one backup attempt failed and was started again. Unlike the desktop above the backup didn't simply fail. It kept restarting again. I had to manually stop the backup attempt because I don't know how long this loop would have lasted.
Again there were two ".tibx" files created instead of the expected one.

EH1.jpg

Backups for Laptop #2 with Malwarebytes Premium not running

This attempt succeeded with the 2nd ".tibx" file increasing in size. What is really strange is that both the 1st and 2nd ".tibx" files had their date updated.

I appreciate everyone replies on this matter, and all the troubleshooting, and everything. Helps me out to know i'm not only one experiencing this issue, and i'm very much less stressed than i was at beginning of August when first discovered the issue

Received a reply from Acronis support, there well aware of the Issue, and expects it to be solved at some point in the very next update, though unknown when that will be at this point

Even though they told you that they are aware of the problem, it is important that everyone that has it report it. That is why I did it. The more people that complain about it the more pressure they will have to solve it.

I just got a reply from Acronis support. It include a link to their cloud storage. I uploaded notes, screenshots, and SystemReports for all 5 of my computers with ATI 2025. Maybe they can make sense comparing the results. I uploaded 180MB all together.

Hopefully they will fix ATI 2025 soon. For now I will just uninstall Malwarebytes Free & Premium until this is resolved. I am doing this because right now I don't trust Malwarebytes even if it is disabled.

BTW, back in 2021 I had ATI 2021. It had a very slow GUI which was annoying enough. The last straw was when I discovered that the Mobile backup was corrupting its backup files. Even though the last update for ATI 2021 was broken they still refused to fix this. I convinced them to let me downgrade to ATI 2018.

BTW, I deleted the problematic backups for Laptop #2 and tried the backup again. This time there was no problem. I will now do the same with Desktop #3.

Yeah this is my 2nd Time trying Acronis subscription, last time i didn't bother going thru support in 2021 to fix the possible issue related to it at the time, had too much RL stuff going on at the time, and didn't really have time for a lenghty support session

I had a problem with accessing network shares with 2021 version, i think was related to True Image then, as that was only program i installed at the time when the problem started.

At that time i didn't pursue Support like i should've, wasted $79.99 for 3 PC subscription at time

I suppose i could uninstall Malwarebytes temporarily as well til issue is solved fully--might just do that in a bit here

I wanted to emphasize that I I uninstalled all version of Malwarebytes even the free version since even it caused a problem on one of my computers. I will reinstall them when the problem with ATI 2025 is resolved.

After you uninstall Malwarebytes check the security icon in the system tray. It there is a yellow explanation point then click on it to check if there is a problem with security. You might need to Enable something. If it is something you don't want such as One Drive you can select to Dismiss it.

S1.jpg

After everything in security is either Enabled or Dismissed then you will see a green checkmark for security.
