Deleting the key completely does not solve the problem. After reboot, it recreates itself and the Welcome screen reappears.

Maybe it's time to look for an alternative.
I used to use the official portable version of CCleaner, but it now leaves remnants in the Registry and Task Scheduler. Complaints about it have fallen on deaf ears.

HiBit Uninstaller is a good free light alternative with some great tools. It also has an official portable version.

Be careful using the Registry cleaner in this app, it breaks Steam's ability to create desktop shortcuts (shortcuts are created but they no longer work), a problem CCLeaner does not have. I have emailed the developer about this, so let's see if there is any feedback.

That's interesting.
Does it only affect Steam desktop shortcuts?
I tested making some random desktop shortcuts, and didn't have a problem.

Run the Registry cleaner, then create desktop shortcuts via Steam, it breaks each time, then I restore the fixes, reboot, and it all works again as it should. Doing as registry fix with CCleaner does not break this. Tested on 3 different computers, same results, different operating systems.

The fixes mentioned in your link dot seem to work in Windows 11, as some of those options are no longer available.

Which HiBit Registry Cleaner entry is breaking the Steam shortcuts?
It should be fairly easy to identify.

I don't use Steam?

No idea, all I did was restore the fixes the program made.

Also Steam uses a different type of desktop shortcut, some type of web version, which is different to a normal shortcut other programs will make

An example, showing the shortcut properties

The clearer affects the type of shortcut, and the broken version no longer has the web document tab

I opened Ccleaner this morning and it has reverted back to opening with Custom Clean.

I changed nothing and am using the latest Portable version.

You aren't alone. One of the mods on the CCleaner support forum posted this this morning, after his second running of CCleaner:

Well, I don't have the Welcome screen annoyance, and haven't had it since I went back to using the Portable without entering my license number, but this is surely good-to-great news for those who have that awful "feature".

Yes, the welcome screen has unexpectedly gone for me too. Back to how it was, starting with the custom clean. Lets hope it stays that way.

Same here, I've just installed the portable version 6.14 and it is opening with custom clean...

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Piriform\CCleaner and you'll find (Cfg)WelcomeScreen there. Right-click on (Cfg)WelcomeScreen and click Modify. A new panel will open with the number 1 highlighted. Just type 0 (zero, that is) and click OK, then close the registry editor, and that should stop the "Welcome Back" screen from annoying you.

Tx. I'm just wondering whether the bright developers at Piriform/Avast (or should I say Avast/Piriform?), now that they've backed out of the vastly unpopular "Welcome Back" screen will remove that key value remotely with a tiny upgrade. Your evidence says, "Not yet."

I just got a recent update and it was still there, but the update did not change it for me. it was on 7.19 23
