Current version of Thunderbird -- really OK now

I really like the simplicity of the beta...,
mind you, I'm only using Thunderbird to monitor incoming mail of 2 Junk Mail accounts, nothing else, nothing fancy.

You interested in the customization stuff in the CSS thread? Fun and games! Never thought I’d see the day when I spent hours playing with an email client to get it to “look right,” not to work right.

Yeah, well, I’m that way with many apps, maybe even most, but I find it enjoyable to tinker with some of them until they fit me like a glove. Thunderbird offers so many options through CSS that I couldn’t resist tinkering.

Thunderbird 117b4 is looking A-OK. I just now installed it and took off 102.14.0. I had been using 102 installed and 117 as a portable, but am impressed enough to make it my default email client.

My experience so far makes me think that’s not a bad move at all. It works, and it works well, and even without using userChrome, there are a zillion ways to customize it, most of which the user community won’t discover. They’ll probably love it anyway. It was created by techies for techies, and I think that’s why I like it so much. But general users are going to love it. As Edwin says, out-of-the-box, it’s good.

Just updated to 117.0b4, haven't noticed any changes/issues.

Still can't make my mind up whether I prefer light or dark mode.

I'm still hanging at 117.0b4 ("Thunderbird is up to date") even though 117.0b5 has been posted (Directory Listing: /pub/thunderbird/releases/117.0b5/win64/)
as released since early morning, day before yesterday. Anybody know what's up with that? I don't want to install either the .exe or the .msi, 'cuz I'm running the Portable still, and it updates perfectly when an update is offered, while using an installation file would just make a lot of work for me, since old profiles are not generally accepted by later versions.

I'm on 117.0b4 and I just checked and it said I was up to date;installed version.

@trevo Thanks. It's not just the portable that's being stalled before the update to b5, then. I'll keep checking and post back here. It's odd that there would be a new version on the releases site that isn't being offered to the users through the internal update function.

That happens from time to time. I am on the installed version and when the newest version is on the releases site I just download it and don't wait for the internal updater. BTW, since you are on the portable version you can just download the exe file and extract it with 7zip or WinRAR. It only has the core folder and the setup.exe file. Then just copy and paste it into the portable version.

I'm running both the beta and alpha builds..., there are no release notes, as of yet....,
I haven't seen anything new...,

probably bug fixes/under-the-hood stuff.

@Edwin: But how the heck did you GET the 17.0b5? You must have installed it from the releases page, no? I keep getting "Thunderbird is up to date" from the in-app updater.

Can you use Thunderbird to set up Gmail and Yahoo?

Absolutely. No problem. Install TB, use the defaults to get the first account set up, and then don't click DONE, but Add another account.

Awesome! Can I set it to where it starts with Windows, and alerts me of new mail, etc? It would be one less Firefox extension
