Controlled Folder Access is also known as Ransomware Protection. It protects your user data folders from unauthorised access or changes. The downside is that some 3rd-party apps may be blocked from saving to your user folders until you have added then to the list of allowed apps. It is easy enough to add an allowed app, and once you have added all those you use then you won't notice it is on, it doesn't get in your way.
I have it enabled on all my machines.
