That's pretty much the first thing I do to an old laptop that needs repair... Save the personal data to an external drive, pull the klunk drive, pop in an SSD and reinstall the OS. In some cases I'll just restore the klunk drive to factory settings, clone it to SSD and pull the klunk drive after the clone is done. Works like a charm. I can't imagine why anyone would want a mechanical hard drive in a mobile device anymore. There's just no excuse for it.

- I own too many laptops: A Dell touch screen with Windows 11 and 6 others (not counting the other four laptops I bought for this household.) Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
