Frequency of scans?

Since I'm only on "1 1/2 years" on Windows 11. How important is it? Or running a "SFC /scannow" is. Or DISM scan. Once a month? Cheers

I run them every time Windows updates.

Only run those if I have a problem.. Haven't run either of them in 3 years

My laptop runs scans once or twice a week, without any manual intervention. It runs in the background without affecting my work and shows up on the Notification Bell. But, I don't remember where that setting is.

You will probably get different opinions on this.
SFC is a troubleshooting tool that verifies all your system files are in place and viable and should always be one of the first things to do when you experience issues. Whether or not you choose to run it on any kind of regular basis depends on how pro-active you are in managing your computer. I can only speak for myself. Just as I practice on-going smart file management and keeping junk files off my computer, I do use SFC once a month as part of my habits before update Tuesday. I run SFC to make sure I'm as clean as I can be going into the updates and then make a system image. I do not run DISM unless SFC finds something it can't fix. I figure the 15 minutes I spend to do this is well worth the peace of mind I get from doing it.

On the other hand it's also my opinion while it doesn't hurt anything to do it (other than all the read/writes wear to your drive), one can be too paranoid about doing it too often. It's all about balance.What's right for one and the way he uses his computer is not necessarily right for the next guy.

Generally speaking, Only if i have a reason to. Otherwise, Not at all.

I only run a sfc/scan when somethings "weird" or my machine starts getting sluggish. I do a Disk Clean up once a month/6 weeks.

Yeah, different answers for sure. In one respect, a response like that could indicate that those who maintain and take care of their computers to ensure no problems arise would run those commands regularly. On the flip side, I am an avid enthusiast and IT professional with many years of experience...so I really take care of my computers as well, and I find no need to run these types of commands regularly. So, I don't feel my lack of running these commands indicates in any way that I am not managing my computer.

i take images from time to time as well of my machine. But I never have problems with Windows updates, so I don't do images regularly before an update. i can understand why some may want to do these types of proactive backups, but my experience with updates has been quite smooth.

Not always, I dont run em often at all BECAUSE my house is order. If i was running em weekly monthly or whatever then i'd expect there was an issue, No issue no Solution,

that was kinda the point i was making.

The previous post made it sound like if you take care of your PC and are pro-active, you run them regularly. My point was you can take care of your machine and they are not necessary unless problems arise.

I run...
sfc /scannow and Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup,
after every update and before I make a backup as well.
