Installed beta 5.0, it did keep all settings but doesn't seem any faster. It took longer to merge with other Incremental backup but that may be attributed to SSD speed, although it's on relatively fast NVMe drive (3600Mbps write speed) it kept it on 100% usage. It also uses only one CPU core and thread (out of 12/24) and even that doesn't push it far from idle frequency. Using more cores should help with encryption and compression and speed everything up. Compression medium.

Although Hasleo is potentially a good tool, I feel it is being developed a bit too quickly if anything, and with that comes a risk of unreliability, especially Beta versions.

It is stll basically New Kid on the Block and users should not put all their eggs in one basket until they are convinced of its long term reliability.

No matter which imaging tool one uses, always a good plant to make a backup with another tool periodically.

I use it to supplement MR making backups on different disks.

I did use and test 4.9.3, didn't even upgrade to 4.9.4, went straight to beta 5.0

I can only compare it to MR and everything is about same except Hasleo is free and my MR is payed version 8.1.8325, not going to upgrade to X. Hasleo Rescue disk has less options but worked perfectly.

Well not exactly - gui does not do drag and drop so you can easily reorder or partition. Also does not have equivalent of Macrium Image Guardian or Changed Block Tracker, or Viboot.

So it is a promising tool (especially as free) but still has a way to go to be on a level with Macrium Reflect Home.

Will keep using 4.9.4 next to my other Backuppers , dont want to rely on only one , so using a few backuppers , if one fails , the other will fix it........... :wink:

"The low compression level of the V5.0 Beta uses the same ZSTD compression level as the medium compression level of Macrium Reflect. You should change the default compression level in the settings based on your computer's performance, especially if you have previously installed Hasleo Backup Suite. If the CPU is not powerful enough and you choose a very high compression level, it will take longer to back up the same data."

"All compression levels use ZSTD, the default compression level is low if you have never installed HBS, and if you have installed HBS and specified the default compression level in the settings, then it will use the compression level you set."

I updated from 4.9.3. to 5.0 and all previous settings stayed same. Compression is on Medium as before. Even high shouldn't be problem on this system, high end 12/24 core/thread CPU reaching 5700MHz on single and 5400MHz all core load. As I said it's barely utilized on one core. Probably enough for what it's doing, Windows and and CPU algorithm usually switch load between cores when one or more are are reaching their power limits, Many programs also may force work to be shared between cores regardless of those limits (that's what most modern games do for instance. I read in one of those forums that Hasleo runs in multicore mode but al I have seen is only one core with some background "noise" on another one.
Ram, of 32GB also very little. So it looks like all is geared for bottom end PCs so it doesn't detract much from simultaneous work.
That's all during first phases while making actual backup but during merging phase only high load is on disk backup is going to, although relatively fast NVMe SSD it stays at 100% load for last few minutes while merging making it unusable. Hate to think how long it would take to backup to a HDD. As it is, about 2/3rd of backup time is spent on merging. If it used more RAM as cache/buffer I believe it could speed up.
Although I have over 4TB of storage it's spread over 5 disks so I have to keep Hasleo and MR on separate disks so Ill try next with high compression to see difference in file sizes and speed,

I tested Hasleo v5.0 Beta against v4.9.3 and the beta was faster and produced smaller images. They have also come out with two new updates: 4.9.4 and 4.9.5. These both take longer than 4.9.3 and the backups are larger. So, the 5.0 Beta is still the clear winner of all of the versions.

5.0, Set compression on high and incremental finished way faster, about 2 minutes, probably because of shorter writing.

Tried high compression -- took only 2 seconds longer but the file was 1GB smaller. Looks like this is the way to go.

V5.0 Beta 1 has been released, here is the download link:

Change logs for V5.0 Beta 1:
1. Added feature to backup files on network mapped volumes
2. Improved the feature of enumerating network shared folders
3. Allows you to choose whether or not to save your network access credentials
4. Fixed bug: Failed to restore NTFS to a small partition
5. Fixed some bugs to improve product quality

Hopefully this is the last beta version of V5.0 and no more features will be added to V5.0.

On the one hand, it is good to see rapid development of Hasleo with these Beta tools.

On the other hand, I kind of think the developers are trying to catch up with other tools that have been developed over a number of years and have established a good user base with reliable tools.

My worry is the pace of development is almost too fast - we see that with Insider versions of Windows (admittedly more complex) where bugs often seem to be being introduced as fast as being resolved.

In the end, if Hasleo is your goto tool, make sure you have thoroughly tested restores, and I recommend you have an alternative backup tool as well.
