How can I limit my CPU temps?

Obviously power consumption will be higher when plugged in, so will performance. On battery obviously lower power consumption at the expense of lower performance, and to lengthen usage time on one battery charge.

Go to the MSI Centre to update the BIOS, you already seem to have the latest version, unknowingly you may have updated the BIOS.

You will probably need the Intel ME FW Update tool, but check very carefully reading the notes.

My Laptop with very similar hardware 12th Gen and after 6 BIOS updates, one VBIOS update, absolutely nothing changed.

i dont usually mind the temps but they get scary and they end up crashing my computer. my whole screen ends up freezing and the audio starts glitching and looping. ive looked into all other errors that occur before these crashes and i've concluded that it probably is the temps.//

i dont really mind the graphics settings its just mostly not being able to use other apps without crashing or such

and yeah msi centre! would putting my performence at high reduce the temps overall?

and thank you! what would all of the bios updates do exactly? and how would i be careful w it because again im pretty new to this stuff

I just run in Balanced plan and set Advanced settings 'Max processor state' to 99 or 98% to stop it going to 90℃ Runs at 74℃ in this state. It does run at slightly less performance but that's the trade-off with a laptop.

I thought these increased my temps, i had them at likd 10%

can i keep them low when on battery to save power tho?

You have to be in balanced mode (at least on my Acer) for the percentage max processor settings to work. It's ignored in the other power modes. Running in this state the CPU doesn't need to throttle badly and possibly works out faster overall.

Reduce the maximum frequency (for P cores), e.g. 4GHz?

If you have a heterogeneous processor, you need to change another parameter.

It should not be crashing at all, mine has not for 18 mths.
Nothing you have said leads to the conclusion that it is temperatures.
Are you getting games from legit sources and/or have you been messing with system mods ?

Not a good idea to mess with Power Plans set by the Laptop manufacturer, especially as you have a limited understanding.

Definitely not, the opposite, more performance means more power and higher temps.

As I said, nothing you will notice, probably security or some other obscure bugs. Sometimes the manufacturer will provide vague details.

Just follow the manufacturers instructions & checks.

That is NOT a result of excessive heating from charging. Try running it running it p[lugged in when the battery is 100% charged and not needing any power to charge and I bet the same thing happens. No, this is because laptop manufacturers typically throttle performance when on battery, especially on gaming laptops with dedicated GPUs. It's a common complaint that a high performance gaming laptop that runs at full speed on battery is a rare animal.

i just went ahead nd assumed the temps, but yes my games are from legit sources and ive done multiple file checks using some virus deyecters like malwarebytes

yep, it does the same when not needing any extra battery i believe. im not too sure as ive capped my battery at a max of 80% to save battery life using msi centre. thats quite unfortunate but thats okay

The Intel Management Engine Firmware (ME FW) Update Tool can be used to install a critical security update, as is explained in the description on the download page I linked. This same description also clearly states that you need to update the BIOS first. There exists a reason why MSI wrote these kinds of descriptions.

As for the Utilities section again.

True Color is for RGB lighting effects
Thunderbolt Control Center was designed for Windows 10 and is not compatible with Windows 11, but you can grab the Intel Thunderbolt Driver from the Driver section instead

Nahimic is this, but some years ago there have been reports from various users that some games won't run until you force-terminate Nahimic via Task Manager, and, I don't know if the problems were fixed (and in fact I don't know anything else about it)
