How to defeat caps lock?

I tried the reg fix and after adding Scancode Map it refused to respond to double clicking on it. I tried the NumLocker program and it could not be written to the program folder during installation. In other words it wouldn't install.

The Capsunlock app doesn't seem to be any better than the Setpoint program at killing capslock. I'll keep reading this thread. Maybe someone will come up with something that works on my computer.

I also installed Autohotkey but couldn't figure out how to use it with capslock.
Why don't you use SetPoint to disable the Caps Lock key? After you check the Caps Lock option and hit Apply the setting will be saved. I talked about that in Post #34.

I've tried SetPoint a number of times MisterEd and it doesn't keep the setting after reboots. I've followed another advice from Antspants that is working famously. I pried the capslock key off the keyboard so that function is no longer close enough to hit by accident. Thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions.

In SetPoint after you checked the box for Disable Caps Lock key did you click on the Apply button? I found the settings won't be saved unless you do that.

In SetPoint I selected to disable Caps Lock last week. It stays disabled even thought I rebooted several times since then.

That was interesting MisterEd. I just repeated the setting of disable caps lock, clicked on apply and OK, rebooted and went back to same setting and it is not selected at all. Don't know why it works for you but it won't stick on my Windows 11 Home computer.

BTW, anyone used Quick Share? I downloaded it from Microsoft (not Google) installed it but can't find it. It's not on All Apps or recent apps, but it is on the list of programs installed. It doesn't turn up when searching for it, just outside links to the program. I repeated that three times with the same results. After install completes there is only a link to "close" but not to "run". Perhaps I'll try downloading it from Google's play store. Microsoft says they are not the same. That the download from Google only works with Samsung phones. However, I do have a Samsung but I figured why not get the version that works with all android phones.

I think you may find that it glitches out and you have to disable then enable again.

I actually found this app that @pseymour posted to work a lot better

Well, there's nothing to disable when I find it's already been disabled by the OS. Thanks for the link to scancode map 111. I tried it once before with no success but don't remember the results so I'll give another look.

As long as you don't mind the small footprint running, I am finding this stable, 100% stubborn and caps lock is certainly disabled. Have been running it since pseymour posted the link a week ago and it has stuck.

After installing Scancode Map

  • Start Scancode Map

Win-1371.png

  • Click on Add ➕

Win-1372.png

  • In the From Scroll down to Caps Lock

Win-1373.png

  • In the To Select Disable

Win-1374.png

  • Click OK, click Apply

Win-1377.png
  • Click OK

Win-1375.png

  • You can reboot or you can sign out then in again, same effect.
