i had to upgrade my phone a 2010 HTC Legend running Android 2.2 which is built like a tank and is still in pristine condition.
because they have decided to cut off 2G and 3G this year in the UK. it lasted so long because the battery was removable and replaceable.

so after having a good look around and deciding that the new superduper phones were not to my liking, so
i found this. a brand new 2013 HTC One SV C535 running Android 4.0.4. its not as sturdy as the legend but is still well built and
the battery is again removable and replaceable but is 4G/LTE. hopefully it will last as long as the other HTC.

i have managed to salvage the 32GB Samsung Pro Micro SD-card to reuse so i am up and running with a phone again.
now please dont laugh as it took me several weeks to find a suitable replacement as i only really use it as a phone.

best of luck, Steve ..

Actually 2G (text and calls) will be around for a few years yet as 2G carries emergency calls eapecially in remote areas with poor 3G coverage. The scheduled 2G shutdown is c. 2033.

So the legend will work as a phone (your primary use) for quite a while (at least 5 years).

Re. decision to go for a phone that runs Android 4, frankly (imo) that is not the greatest decision as it is an old and pretty insecure OS.

everything mobile data or wifi related are disabled along with about every service that can be disabled.
just phone, text, calendar (local storage), calculator, camera and video, notes (local storage) , sounds/music (local storage)
and thats about it. no updates available and the phone is locked just like the HTC Legend, i shall leave it that way.

O2 (Tesco Mobile) cut 2/3G off this May, thats all 2/3G everything, hence the upgrade from old/old to old/new.

best of luck, Steve ..
