    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

I have tried updating three of my machines. One updated successfully, the other two failed with this error:

EDIT: both failed machines updated successfully after a restart. Possibly the error was due to having made an image the night before, the .dll may still have been in use? I had not restarted since, just hibernated. That applied to all three machines though, so doesn't explain why one out of the three succeeded.

Did the MR update, and re-made the bootable rescue media, and it works fine. :-)

A reply on the forum confirms that this bug has been seen in the patches for the V10 BETA too....

This was encountered during testing for the next release and it has been fixed. I can't speak for whether it will be fixed in the 8.1 release.

Sorry that pink elephant that just whooshed over my head trumpeting makes me think this is never going to happen.

The latest email today shows they only care about business. If they do not get any sales of leases for Home versions, they will renege on supporting V8 for a year.

It is like Windows - MS's revenue comes mostly from corporate systems. Domestic one off purchases of Windows licenses is a tiny fraction of their income.

If they do not get projected revenues from Home leases, all that will happen is Home users will get stuck on a version with no more development and bugs will take ages to get fixed (a la Acronis style). I seriously doubt Paramount care.

We have to face facts - the friendly company we all loved no longer exists.

The latest email today shows they only care about business. If they do not get any sales of leases for Home versions, they will renege on supporting V8 for a year.

It is like Windows - MS's revenue comes mostly from corporate systems. Domestic one off purchases of Windows licenses is a tiny fraction of their income.

If they do not get projected revenues from Home leases, all that will happen is Home users will get stuck on a version with no more development and bugs will take ages to get fixed (a la Acronis style). I seriously doubt Paramount care.

Once VX is avaiable shortly, V8 will no be available. However, if you buy a V8 perpetual licence now, you will be able to commute it for a 3 year lease. You would start paying at beginning of year 4.

Of course, you can just buy V8 and use it forever but with no support past 1st year of VX release.

In the end, Dirty Harry sums it up "Do you feel lucky".

I have 5 V8 licences so I will try the trial version and maybe lease 1 copy only if it has enough WOW factor but doesn't look like it for my use.

Like cereberus I have 5 licences for v8 Home, It used to be just a 4-pack, but I recently bought on more perpetual licence. I do have more machines than licences though, so the rest use Reflect Free.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

For those intrepid trail blazers who have updated to 24H2, please note the winre.wim file has been updated as well, and I advise you to update your Macrium Reflect boot menus / isos / usb drives.

Of course I recommend you keep a copy of your 23H2 iso (and usb drive) based on old winre.wim before updating to new winre.wim.

If you experience a significant reduction in backup, try temporarily turning off VSS and see if that helps, then turn vss back on. I had this problem and this seemed to fix it.
