We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
  • Continue using Reflect 8 for as long as you want. You will continue to have access to 12 months technical support from the date you bought the licenses.
  • Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year of support from the date of purchase) and receive a 3-year Annual Plan at no extra cost. Macrium may make loyalty offers available at the end of your 3-year term. However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.

It's not that uncommon, others have seen it too - and in v8, not just Reflect X. Seems that Reflect licensing checks for MAC addresses, in part. If they change it mistakenly thinks it's a different machine. This thread throws some light on this issue....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Why would the MAC address change with a Windows update?
First time that's ever happened, it was fine when Windows went from .2033 to .2161

I noticed that with each update my backups seem to get slower to complete.
Size of the back have remained close to the same, some actually smaller.
I have no scientific proof other they just seem to take longer

Well, I have just been puzzled by latest 24H2 update - similar situation but instead of 40 seconds, it has jumped to 50 secs. If anything, slightly less to backup as well.

I used to write at around 11Gb/s but now it has dropped to around 9 Gb/s.

I have checked all settings - pc on max performance, power saving off etc.

No obvious reason why.

I am going to recover an older build to see if it reverts.


EDIT 1: yep back to 2161 and back to 40 seconds!

EDIT 2: reupgraded to 2314 and has stayed at 40 seconds (after a tidy up). Backup slightly larger.

Yeah but presumably you could just buy a new licence next Black Friday assuming similar deal?

It all depends if Paramount prevent that. I would certainly try that before renewing existing licence.

I am also thinking of trading in my 4 pack of 8.1 licences for the 50% off yearly subscription plan that way I can renew all of the Reflect X subscriptions on the same day yearly.

You have two options, you might want to look at option 2. That lets you keep the v8 licence, and if you went for it now the renewal would be due on Black Friday in 3 years time...

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:

You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

@Bree I have looked at both options and Option 2 will cost me about $285 CAN to trade in my 4 pack for a 3 Year subscription unless I convert to US $ using PayPal first then I can save approx $30. Also while I get to keep my 4 8.1 licences I would still have 3 unused keys left over.

In my original post I would get a guaranteed 50% OFF yearly subscription for my 4 pack starting at the current $49.99 US and 40% off Black Friday sale at $29.99 US for 1 Additional PC.

I may ultimately decide to keep using Macrium 8.0 Free and my perpetual 4 pack of 8.1 and see how much longer my luck holds out until it is no longer usable due to a compatibility issue.

When I just had a 4-pack I used to say that I had more machines than licences, and that the rest used Reflect Free. That is not quite so true now. I bought a one-time v8 licence just before the release of Reflect X specifically to trade in for the free 3-year plan. Then, after the launch when Macrium were no longer selling v8, I felt that I needed to test whether you could still buy a one-time v8 licence from an intermediary like Softpedia who at the time had not yet switched to selling the new Reflect X licences (yes, I could). So now at 6 licences I have almost as many licences as machines.

I do still use Free on a couple of machines (one is on v7). I have tested Reflect v8 Free in the latest Insider Canary build and it still works. I don't expect that v8 is going to stop working any time soon, and am inclined to keep all my v8 licences for as long as possible.
