My fastest upload I can get from my ISP is 50Mbps. So, I don't shove really big things into my OneDrive either.

I look at backups like this. My data files, my pictures and videos I take on my devices are the only things I have which are irreplaceable. So, those go into OneDrive, so they are always in 2 places. My browser bookmarks are in my Google account, my email is all in gmail...so those require no backups. My video game profiles are all online, so no local saves to be concerned with there either for the games I play. Therefore, while my Macrium backups are "nice", they aren't critical. I can always reload my OS, and reload my apps if I have to. So, I don't feel compelled to ensure that I always have an "image" stored offsite like I used to.

I too have offce 365, so I have accounts for me, wife, daughter, son and my dad. (and 1 to spare). We all have our phones setup to push pictures and videos directly to OneDrive, so a lost, stolen or misplaced phone isn't an issue. Nor is having to worry about storage space on our phones. Pics can be deleted no problem on the phone and they remain in OneDrive.....as this setup is not a real-time sync.

I'm using at present 132GB of my 1TB of space in my OneDrive account.

I trialled R-Drive. The backup was 2 minutes 45 seconds which is quite slow for my 90GB of OS and data. Trying to do a restore within Windows failed and crashed my computer. The BSOD would not even display properly as there was a band of green and black stripes down the middle.

I shut down and rebooted. THen I ran sfc /scannow which found errors. DISM......RestorHealth was able to fix these.

I had not made a boot option for R-Drive, but the program should have just refused to restore over my active OS. Macrium will just boot into a PE and carry on.

I just downloaded R-Drive again and there is no option to add R-Drive to the Boot menu. Macrium just seems more polished.

I tried Disk Master by QILING and that was a total disaster for me with the bootable USB created. Binned.

Want different system images in Windows 11

Has anyone else ever tried 'QILING Disk Master Free' ? I'm a Macrium Pro user and have been for many years but I recently tested this program and it did the job just fine. There is a Pro, Technician and Server versions of it at cost but it looks like another option for some users that aren't...

I don't see it as a gamble. I just see it as just waiting until forced to do so. And that's if it even happens. With Macrium now going to a subscription plan, I wonder if that means that there will be a major update every year.

Depending how the subscription plan works there may be a major upgrade every year - if you have to pay for it. Minor upgrades would be free.

I doubt that you wouldn't be able to have your key reset. If they won't reset it, just use your Macrium image to roll back so you can deactivate it. Then do the clean install.

Edit: I run the Canary builds of Windows and have had Macrium deactivate a few times when I did a build update. It just converted back the free version. Except for ( I think it was one time) all I had to do was re-enter my key.

I think V8 is going to be usable for quite some time and certainly long enough for us to decide if we want/need to go to V10.
For me V10 is going to have to have something quite compelling about it for me to upgrade to it.
As mentioned earlier, plenty of other options should we find it necessary to ditch V8 and avoid V10.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. MS is going to have to make some very serious changes to Widows for Macrium 8.1 to stop working.

Sorry to say but they wouldn't be free. They would be included in the price of the yearly subscription.

If it's a subscription, I'd like to assume that there would be major updates every year. But we all know where assumptions get us. Also, Macrium v8.1 seems to be robust enough for the likes of me. I'm not sure what major updates would be enticing enough for me to get a subscription. Perhaps if they allowed me to put Macrium X on multiple computers for one annual price, I might get it. But I doubt that's in the cards.

I already know that it works on every available new 24H2 build, from RP up to Canary. So it's not much of a gamble for the next few years

Thanks Bree. You've answered a question for me. Not being an Insider I was wondering how Reflect 8.1 performs on 24H2. My last update was Windows 10 to 11 using Windows Update which didn't go well and I had to do a clean install and so the Reflect licence key was showing as used. I'll take @Winuser advice and restore or uninstall Reflect and remove the key before upgrading and reinstall.
