Macrium Reflect v10


So I got this offer from Macrium. With a trade-in of my 4 pack v8 licenses it works out to $56/year including GST/VAT for 4 pack of Reflect X licenses with a permanent (?) 50% discount provided the subscription is renewed each year. This price will not remain static for sure and will be revised upwards every year or two.

The non-trade-in option works out to $203 including GST/VAT for 3 years. Pay more upfront with a price lock-in.

I am mulling over these 2 upgrade routes.

Fromm what I read, the permanent license only includes support and updates for one year. Need to consider that in the decision.

Not exactly - to be able to raise tickets, you had one year in the perpetual licence.

In simple terms, the version is supported for its life but you could only ask for personal support i.e. answers to your queries for the first year of your purchase. You could still use the Macrium Reflect Forum after 1st year and most get answered there like on this forum.

You got updates for the life of the version plus 1 year when a new version comes out.

It is all a bit of a moot point now as VX has come out but V8.1 is still supported from a bug fix perspective for 1 year although it will no longer be developed (similar to Windows 10 until it reaches EOL).

If you have a lease, you get personal support as long as the lease is effective (i.e renewed).

The funny thing is that after purchasing the original 4-Pack, I ended up only using 2 of the licenses, one for Kate and one for me. Now that I've converted the 4-Pack into a subscription, I doubt if there's any way to break it up into individual subscriptions.

It's now a week since going with version X and I'm really enjoying the extra speed. I'm still averaging only 4 minutes to create a 309GB image!

So, would you like to switch 2 of the 4 licenses back to the v8 perpetual licenses?
If that's the case, you'd probably be better to ask that on the Macrium Support Forum.

I upgraded an old v7 licence to v8 three weeks ago for £29 expecting to receive a free trade in for a 3 year plan for X. Macrium offered no such trade in so I got a refund of my £29. Macrium have now changed my other 3 v8 licences to v7 licences in my Macrium account. What an epic error so they now have a complaint from me to sort out a mess of their making.

I don't rate backup and restore speeds as my number one feature. My backups are on schedules, and I don't keep a stopwatch on them.
Reliability is what's more important to me.

Everyone is talking about the speed ..............but what about the accuracy !
imo , much more important then 2/3 minutes .......... ;-)

I have a Host machine for all my VMs with an imaging/verifying time of around an hour for a Full image. Speed is my number one feature. My backups are run manually so I can choose a convenient time. That one now has Reflect X.

The rest have v8, four on Home, the rest on Free. They can stay like that for as long as v8 keeps working ;)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. The Free version (V8) is still working even on the latest canary build - mind you I don't bother with things like bit locker or disk encryption --I don't store much if any sensitive data on a portable PC (laptop or miniPc) or have any password files - so even if laptop gets stolen I'm not scared of "data mis-use" or identity theft, and I rarely if ever use social media - another place where sensitive data can often be gleaned.

Same as jimbo45, I have tested Reflect v8 in the latest Insider Canary build and it still works. It certainly has no issues in RTM 24H2.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

I believe it will work for any future W11 builds as well. Beyond that who know?

Just noticed strange problem ; Macrium 8.1 on my Ventoy-USB did not " see" the backups made by Macrium 10 ! ⁉️
Macrium 10 ( Ventoy ) did see all the backups , made by 8.1 and 10 , also noticed the backups made by 10 were smaller in bytes then made by 8.1 ............
So , anyone noticed this also , and which version should be used............??

Macrium Reflect 10 is backwards compatible with image files created with Macrium Reflect 8.1.

Macrium Reflect 8.1 is not compatible with image files created with Macrium Reflect 10.

Think will use 8.1 ( Ventoy ) for now , Macrium 10 is very new , maybe too soon for trusting it.
8.1 saved my system several times already , so.......... :wink:

The only way to trust any backup software, or any single backup really, is to restore it and verify it.

I simply turn auto-verify ON for a backup and that lets me know if my backup is accurate. I normally back up with verify turned OFF as it adds a significant amount of time to a backup.
