Mine is 42 pixels (now with Start11).
I have an old-fashioned 24 inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels (125%), which does not take too much place on my table.
Some time ago I tried a bigger monitor with a higher resolution (which I could borrow from a friend), set it on 150% and did not like the view at all.
There were times I had an 17 inch monitor, still with picture tube.

But it is very simple: you are satisfied with your setup of Windows 11, I am completely satisfied with mine!
Why would I change my setup, just because tell me I should do so?

I fully agree that forcing Windows to adapt to me is just a learning curve which lowers my blood pressure. Sometimes my blood pressure gets so low that I feel like I might pass out.

That's the problem I was trying to explain. A height of 42 pixels on a 1920×1080 screen translates to 42 / 1080 × 2160 = 84 pixels on a 3840×2160 screen so, your taskbar is still almost twice as tall as mine. Think about that for a minute. If your web browser had a zoom factor that defaults to 200% with no option to make it go down to 100%, how would that make you feel? This is Microsoft "logical reasoning" in 2024.

Of course. On a 2560×1440 screen, neither the 150% Scale setting nor the 125% Scale setting would work for me either. That plus the fact that changing it to a Custom scale is INDECA (Instituto Nacional de Comercialización Agrícola).

My 1st PC monitor was a Philips CRT monochrome (amber) that was only 13 inch, and, with the lid open, looked almost identical to this:

That was not the point of my reply. The point was that Start11 can NOT be used to reduce the taskbar height to match the smallest possible height of the Windows 10 taskbar.

Exactly. Why should I double the height of my taskbar, just because Microsoft tells me I should do so? I may not be getting any younger, but I'm not half blind yet either. Again, maybe if I wore glasses the thickness of weck jar lids it could work. I suppose that the person in charge who works at Microsoft wears them. I mean, what else could possibly explain the reasoning behind this subject? Essentially, you've just confirmed it yourself, that you shouldn't let anyone else tell you how it should be. This is part why I became a Java Enterprise developer, not a Microsoft .NET developer. It's just so I don't have to deal with anti-logic the whole day.

I hope this helps to better explain the root of what this whole subject is about.

To my opinion that is not correct.

A 24 inch monitor 1920 x 1080 (example Iiyama ProLite XUB2492HSU-B1) has a pixel pitch of 0,275 mm.
A 55 inch monitor 3840 x 2160 (example Iiyama ProLite LE5541UHS-B1) has a pixel pitch of 0,315 mm

The taskbar of 42 pixels on a 24 inch montor has a height of 11,6 mm.
The taskbar of 46 pixels on a 55 inch monitor will have about 14,5 mm

11 mm is indeed what I measure holding a ruler against the surface of the monitor.

So the taskbar on my monitor will have less height than on yours.

55 Inch? That’s a Television?

Yes, I was astonished about that size as well.
55 Inch would not fit on my table and is bigger than our present TV in the living room.

Back at it - while the answer to your question finally became clear - with latest news related to Start Menu and future intents. Tho, nothing new.... "the usual corporate cringe even (Google, Facebook and co)" - as in.... "Advertisement!"

What you need to know​

• Microsoft has began testing showing ads in the Start menu's "Recommended" area on Windows 11.
• The ads will consist of "recommended" websites and apps, along with brief descriptions.
• This change will apply to Windows 11 Home and Pro, but users can turn it off.

That being said, those conflicts (be it bugs are "conflicts of interest") - seem to be tied to their adds implementation into Start Menu. The only good part... they can be disabled (there's an option for that). Tho, this add system makes the programing of the newer Start Menu more complicated (more room for conflicts - while using patched/hacked windows files).

I’d appreciate a link to this specific monitor because I can not find a 55” Computer Monitor.
A 55” Television, no problem.

@antspants There's a number of 55" monitors out there now. There's also ones going up to 85" if one wants to dish out from six to ten grand. I can't imagine sitting in front of something that big.

Really. I hate splitting screens. My monitors joined as they are would be a larger space than 55” but I prefer the individual screens. Might be they way I mentally process that likes it like that.

I just measured, my monitor size total is 62” x 24”

yes, that’s it. Plus a 22” Touch Screen/Tablet which my wife is currently using to design a T-Shirt.

Well, sorry if it is already suggested, I didn't had the time to read all the replies, but I have seen similar behavior before. When trying to upgrade from one Windows version to another (such as from Vista to 7 and so on), there might be some "incompatible" applications that block the upgrade. If these are startup applications, disabling them loading at startup might allow you to upgrade. In worst case you have to uninstall these "incompatible" applications, do the upgrade and then reinstall them. I have done it many times. I remember the PowerShell 2.0 application in Windows XP which blocked the upgrade to Vista. The same from Vista to Windows 7. I had to completely uninstall PowerShell 2.0, do the upgrade and then reinstall it. Unfortunatelly it wasn't that easy since it was a Windows update and didn't show on the Applications list. It was in Updates list with a code like KBxxxxx and that made it hard to identify and uninstall!

If you are sitting at 3m (9 feet 10 7⁄64 inches) distance away from a 55 inch widescreen (16:9) TV, then the picture on it will look like it has about the same width and height as when you are sitting at 1m 30cm 9mm (4 feet 3 17⁄32 inches) distance away from a 24 inch widescreen (16:9) computer monitor. So, to compensate for the size difference, people normally sit at a farther distance away from a large TV when compared to a medium-sized computer monitor. Similarly, when I am holding my smartphone, I usually am holding it at only about 40cm (1 foot 3 ¾ inches) distance away from my face. The actual size of the screen itself, doesn't really matter much. To me, it matters more because the relationship between the viewing distance and eyestrain/fatigue matters more to me than it matters to most other people. With a 55 inch TV, the ideal viewing distance is said to be only about 7 feet distance, whereas I prefer to sit at almost 10 feet distance away from mine. My point was that a taskbar height of 42 pixels on a 1920×1080 screen is still almost twice as tall as a taskbar height of 46 pixels on a 3840×2160 screen. This can very easily be confirmed, simply by changing the display resolution of the 55 inch 4K TV from 3840×2160 to only 1920×1080, in Windows Settings | System | Display.

I agree with you about splitting screens. I prefer having two large monitors instead of one XXXL size monitor. The setup I have now is one 32" monitor and one 27" monitor. I do plan on replacing the 27" monitor with another 32" monitor some time later this year. I have my monitors separated by about 9". Because I have to turn my head toward the monitor I want to view I find it less distracting.
