Microsoft is blocking Windows 11 build upgrades on systems with StartAllBack

I agree with you about splitting screens. I prefer having two large monitors instead of one XXXL size monitor. The setup I have now is one 32" monitor and one 27" monitor. I do plan on replacing the 27" monitor with another 32" monitor some time later this year. I have my monitors separated by about 9". Because I have to turn my head toward the monitor I want to view I find it less distracting.
I have to have them butt up against each other otherwise my head would resemble the little girls head in The Exorcist when it does a 360deg

I have lots of room to accommodate Microsoft Ads. How does SAB go with multiple monitors?

The only problem I've had with SAB and dual monitors was on a couple of recent Canary builds. On monitor two any program opened to full size the edge would hide under the Taskbar. For now it's working OK but I know that with the direction MS is going with Windows there is the possibility that I won't be able to run SAB on future Canary Builds.

I actually use three monitors in total. Two on my main desktop and one on my second desktop. The way I use my computers I don't find myself scanning back and forth from monitor to monitor to monitor enough to suffer a Regan MacNeil effect. ;-)

the Rufus v4.5 application will remove the StartAllBack and ExplorerPatcher unauthorized application notification when upgrading to a higher version of the Windows system it is no longer necessary to uninstall these two applications when upgrading the Windows system exactly as it was with the minimum requirements when switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11

Hi folks
A lot of "Bow Locks" on this thread -- does one REALLY think that "StartAllBack" is going to engender / hasten the downfall of the USA for one -- I'm sure the American electorate is much more capable of doing that far speedier by themselves if they so desire it !!!.

However Windows (any version) is a licensed proprietary product and as such its rights owner is entitled to make such conditions as it deems fit to protect its brand and by keeping unproven apps off windows it removes bad publicity due to Windows itself crashing due to some 3rd party application running amok. If you've ever leased any object there are all sorts of conditions attched to the lease with which you have to comply. Break those and you are (or could be) in big trouble. Windows is leased to you even if it's a one time payment -- you don't "own it".

I've no problem with Windows trying to protect itself or Ms trying to protect the brand. Ms doesn't forbid 3rd party apps at all unlike (Cr)-apple who try every trick in the book to make it as difficult as possible for 3rd party developers to add apps to their OS.

Once the defects are fixed - I'm sure there won't be any problem again. However it's up to the 3rd party to fix its app rather than Ms.

Cheers
jimbo

Who says which applications I can run on MY system? I decide, nobody else and certainly no Microsoft! Linux users know how inconvenient it is when a new version of your favorite distro doesn't support your old applications. The same goes for Mac OS and iOS users. One big advantage of Windows is that you can run almost any application or game you want, even those meant for Windows XP (with few exceptions). They would be stupid to change that.

Since both the dev. of StartAllBack and of Explorer Patcher, removed in their updated versions, this functionality for 24h2 and beyond, if you want to have it in future versions, you must stay on StartAllBack 3.7.8.4900, or ExplorerPatcher v22621.3296.64.3. Also, currently there are no significant changes to explorer.exe in 24h2 and I suspect there will be none (except for more forced adds, or spy implementations), since MS has not been interested in quality improvements to explorer in the past and certainly not now. If this comes to change however, I advise to save a compressed copy of explorer.exe from 23h2, than in 24h2 rename the new version and use the one from 23h2. Guaranteed to work absolutely fine.

If this comes to change however, I advise to save a compressed copy of explorer.exe from 23h2, than in 24h2 rename the new version and use the one from 23h2. Guaranteed to work absolutely fine.
If you just look at the actual code on GitHub, it shouldn't be too difficult to see for yourself that ExplorerPatcher 22621.3527.65.1 onwards only disables this functionality if velocity feature 42537950 (DisableWin10Taskbar) is enabled in Windows. When enabled, this feature prevents the Windows 10 taskbar from being loaded. However, at least on the Canary build (26002) of 24H2, it is still possible to disable this feature with ViVeTool. So no, the dev of ExplorerPatcher did not remove in his updated versions, this functionality for 24H2 and beyond. Just people removed their own personal ability to read the code in the file dllmain.c on GitHub when they shouldn't have so, it is another PEBCAK. lol

Pretty smart observation, thank you. However, the taskbar modification of StartAllBack is much more polished than ExplorerPatcher, and right now I don't see a way to use StartAllBack beyond version 3.7.8.4900 with 24h2

However, the taskbar modification of StartAllBack is much more polished than ExplorerPatcher,
With StartAllBack,
  • is it possible to let all icons be always visible in the notification area of the taskbar? (I need at least 20, and none of them should be moved into the icon overflow menu.)
  • is it possible to add toolbars on the taskbar? (Toolbars on the taskbar are essential to my workflow, and, the ability to pin items to the taskbar is not an acceptable solution to me due to how it clutters up the opened apps while at the same time also taking up too much additional space on the taskbar.)
  • is it possible to reduce the taskbar height, the taskbar icons size and the taskbar icons spacing, in such a way that, on a 4k screen with the Scale at 150% (in Windows Settings | System | Display), I can still have up to 30 or so opened app icons visible all at once (with no icon overflow) even if I have a small toolbar added somewhere near the center of my taskbar?
AFAIK the answer to all of the above is still no. So no.

You are wrong. Toolbars can be pinned, in fact this is one of the best StartAllBack features for the Toolbar, since for the start menu modification I use Start11. Both are compatible and a joy to use. I have the NetWorx 6.2.10 network monitoring toolbar pinned and frankly I don't want to use my computer without it. Yes, I have no antivirus and I have disabled the venom called "Defender/antivirus" and I can't feel more secure, just by having the power and oversight of that professional tool.
So, your workflow involves 30 open applications/projects in the same time???? Wow, granted I have in all my browsers open dozens of tabs and in Vivaldi's great tab implementation even hundred open tabs in stacks, yet realistically on a daily basis nobody is capable of using more than 10 thematically separate instances. To me 30 concurrent applications/projects sounds quite ridiculous, unless one thinks of himself as a superman.

Care to enlighten how did that come about? Simple instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, I might have explained it all wrong. Nobody is saying latest StartAllBack would not run on 24h2, just that in versions beyond 3.7.8.4900 the OLD taskbar has been disabled. As a result, in 24h2 you can't pin a toolbar on the taskbar. Hence my earlier post, whoever wants to continue using tollbars in the taskbar as a functionality provided by StartAllBack, must remain on version 3.7.8.4900 and on top of that, if one feels paranoic, than he can use explorer.exe from 23h2 and keep the one from 24h2 disabled as a future proof of reliability.
