Just a few things I'd like to ask.

1. When I went to disconnect the two sata drives, is it normal for the two drives to be connected like that? Please see the photo in post #42. I expected them to be two separate cables going into each drive. But it's actually connected. Maybe it's normal? Anyway, I just unplugged the power cable from each, as them wider ones would not budge and I was afraid of damaging them.

2. Once I reached the desktop in the clean install I had to power off as I had to head away from the PC.

Will it be OK to just power on again and resume trying yo connect to the Internet to do all of the usual Windows updates? Or, are they strictly meant to be done without having shut down my PC?

If its the latter, I can easily just boot again from the USB and start it again, it didn't take long to reach the desktop.

Hi,

I backed up my drivers before the clean install. Right now I am in the process of installing them from scratch because I want to learn a bit about getting them and installing them.

When I got to the desktop I got a pop-up asking did I want to install Armoury Crate. I said yes. But got some error so I guessed that was due to Windows updates not being installed yet. Anyway, after the updates, I got Armoury Crate installed. Is this just for the motherboard? Mine is the ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi.

In Armoury Crate in Tools/Drivers I downloaded and installed:

AMD Chipset Driver
AMD Graphics Driver
Intel Bluetooth Driver
Intel I225 LAN Driver
Intel Wi-Fi Driver
Realtek Audio Driver

Should this be all I need or would I have to install addiotional ones from the drivers page for my motherboard?

Also, I am just seeing that Macrium Reflect is no longer free, that is a bit of a sad thing to see. Do most of you on here use Macrium or an alternate piece of software for this type of thing?

Reflect Free v8.0 has been retired, Macrium will support Reflect Free v8.0 with security/bug fix updates until 1st January 2024.

All links to Reflect Free have now been removed from their website. It's still on Macrium's download servers though, you can still download it if you know where to look.

Thanks Bree! I am downloading 64-bit v8.0.7279 Free from the link. So this will still work once we pass 1st January 2024? Just with no security/bug fix updates?

Yes. The Reflect Free licence is perpetual. The only risk is that MS make big changes to Windows that breaks it. That's unlikely though, I have one machine that's still happily running Reflect Free v7.2.4063, and that was released in February 2019.

The HDD drive will be a bottle neck in your case.

That image you posted that cable is the power end which are often shared between other disks/.. so normal
The data cable is the one to the right of it only four lines and the one you'd want to disconnect it's much easier to disconnect anyway just lower the little clip and pull a little.

You'll likely have to use F8 for boot menu to boot to the installation media/ flash drive and start that process.

Yeah I unplugged the smaller cable on each. The ones to the right of the ones I circles in my attached image.

I have had that pleasure. It's amazing how those little screws can find the hardest places to hide. I had to remove my video card and still had trouble getting to it. To prevent dropping it again I used some candle wax in the head of the screw so it would stick to the screw driver.

Sorry but I wouldn't be too up to speed on the inner workings of this stuff. I just picked this ram when I was picking my parts and someone else built it.

Hi @Bree does this method still work that you linked before?

Just that I want to install Macrium free again and do a backup.

Is this even still the 'go to' method for doing backups? I have not been on this new PC since April as other stuff got in the way, so just checking. Thanks
