I had the error for a time, it wouldn't go away..., I resorted to using the Purge Office Tool, then re-installed Office, no problem since.

I had the error for a time, it wouldn't go away..., I resorted to using the Purge Office Tool, then re-installed Office, no problem since.

That's what I do if I have a major issue with the Microsoft 365 apps. After using the Office Scrub Tool I typically do a clean-up of old files and the Registry before reinstalling. That said haven't had to reinstall for a while because of serious issues.

Just used the " Office repair tool " , took some time ( downloading , etc. )
still no luck , after searching for updates the same error again............
Maybe uninstall/reinstall will do the trick , better wait for fix from Microsoft ...............?

I tried all of the previous suggestions (I think) except the "office purge tool". Will try that in a bit. From what I can tell Microsoft does know about this issue. Been using office 365 64 bit since August 2018 without issues until now.
Office 365 is installed on another computer here but does not show the network error. I am assuming this problem.

While initially troubleshooting this problem I eventually opted to reinstall 635. Online reinstall would NOT run until I removed Visio Pro 2010 32 bit I have had since 2010. Ha. So, I deleted Visio and then office reinstall completed and build 20160 was installed.

In 2018 there was no problem installing office 365 in 2018 alongside 32 bit Visio Pro. However now it won't work. I may try reinstalling the 32 bit Visio later anyway.

Long story longer the network error message is still there.

Used the office scrub tool today. Was sort of a pain but eventually was able to delete all traces, I think, using REVO. Was able to get office 365 re-installed and working. It showed the latest build number and then network error message was gone. But I found VBA was also either deleted or not re-installed. Not sure which. I am maybe one of the few remaining people that use lots of macros. I could not find any install option that would also reinstall VBA. Finally restored a previous image. Thanks Macrium.
Still would like to know what the deal is with VBA not installing with office 365 (Desktop of course).
Any takers?

I uninstalled Office 2021 Retail using the MS Office removal tool. I manually cleaned out the orphaned registry entries, as advised. I reinstalled Office. Checking for updates worked again. I rebooted and tested again. It still worked. Then 4 hours later I tested again, and the error message had returned. I give up!

VBA is built into all Office programs. There is nothing to install. However, you do have to enable it. Here is how to enable it in Word 2021.

1. In Options select Customize Ribbon. Check the box for Developer. Select OK.

2. The Developer tab is now shown on the Ribbon.

Why are you even worrying about this? As long as Office works what difference does it make?

BTW, I did a little searching online and see that the update error problem has been around for at least ten years with different versions of Office. I am sure it will eventually get sorted out.

When I reinstalled Office 2021 it refused to install the 64-bit version but installed the 32-bit version instead. I finally realized the reason was that like you there was some 32-bit remnant of Office left over from some time in the past. After I uninstalled this remnant I was able to install the 64-bit version of Office 2021.

BTW, when I log into my Microsoft and select Office 2021 I have a choice to download auto, 32-bit, or 64-bit. Auto will install 32-bit if it finds some remnant of 32-bit Office. Even if you download and try to install 64-bit and it finds a 32-bit remnant it will only offer to install the 32-bit Office or quit the install.

Yes , Office up to date , with this " search for updates " error .
But ..........what will happen when a next ( after the July 9-update) will arrive ??
Are we able to update again , despite the update-error ............? ⁉️
Could be a reason for going back in time , before we have to do this later anyhow..............!

Your Office connects to the server and distinguishes what you need to be up to date, old or new I would imagine. Just like Windows does. If you’re missing updates that you couldn’t previously get, you will receive those old updates as well as the new updates also. Is that what you mean?

    …still on a horse.
Appreciate the interest. Is VBA still considered 32 bit? Since office is working now I am not going to allow any office updates for awhile. But every time I chose to reinstall office 365 yesterday I was presented with the option to choose 32 or 64 bit. I always chose 64 bit but VBA was not installed. I am aware of enablng the "Developer" option in the toolbar or course. The "Record Macro" and "Macros" selections were and disabled. Did a search for traces of VBA on my pc and it does not exist. I am believing when I followed the "update network error" troubleshooting procedures VBA was deleted during one of those processes. Perhaps VBA does not get reinstalled during a "clean" 64 bit reinstall?
My descriptions may not be clear but I still appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have a Microsoft 365 subscription or Microsoft Office 2021? They are not the same.

For Microsoft 365 subscriptions to use VBA you have to install the Office apps locally on a Windows or Mac computer. VBA does not work online. Note VBA is included with all Microsoft 365 plans except Microsoft 365 Basic.

BTW, last year Microsoft confused things by calling all Office products Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 now includes Microsoft 365 subscriptions and Microsoft Office 2021 perpetual licenses.

This error ; 30088-27 , had better be fixed in the next regular update which, I presume, is scheduled for August 13th (second Tuesday in August). It should be fixed earlier but it's got to be fixed by then.
Will see soon................ ;-)
