Solved Reinstall Window 11 from usb without Losing Anything.

OK. Same BIOS.

All I am able to suggest is Disable Fast Boot
Search for if the system is set to UEFI or UEFI CSM, toggle between the two, save and reboot to the BIOS, check the Boot tab again.

At this point, someone smarter than me would need to intervien. (Which is 90% of this forum)

EDIT.

OK Toggle (try both) change to UEFI and reboot, check the Boot Tab
If no joy
Change it to CSM and UEFI, save, reboot and check the Boot tab again.

You’ll need a UEFI USB, hence creating Windows install via RUFUS first, plugging it in before trying anything else with the BIOS.

you can download a live linux system here.

>>>but if you are unsure how to proceed then let us try this first please<<<

i believe that you already have downloaded windows 11 and placed that on USB, if so.
insert the USB drive into the computer .. open explorer .. then click on and open the USB drive with windows on.

within that USB drive there will be a file named 'setup'
double click that and you will be given the option of doing an in-place upgrade keeping all your files and folders.

please post back any results from that.
many thanks and best of luck. Steve ..

RUFUS

Download the latest ISO of Windows 11 (Option Two in this tutorial)

Download RUFUS (Because I believe your laptop came with windows 10? But rergardless)

rufus-4.5.exeStandardWindows x641.4 MB2024.05.22

On your Husbands PC, run RUFUS
Direct RUFUS to the ISO (Click “Select”)
Don’t change anything else on that window
Click START
Choose your settings, click ok.
If your PC wasn’t originally made for Windows 11, or isn’t Windows 11 compliant, make sure the top one is ticked in this image.
If you use an Online Microsoft Account, make sure second option is unchecked.

Yes just follow steps in post 32 in order, the download links and tutorials are intact.
When running the Rufus .exe, it doesn’t install anything, it’s basically portable. Once it is closed when you're finished, it’s no longer on the computer

Download ISO
Download RUFUS
Make a USB with RUFUS using ISO (see post 32)

perhaps open this thread on your husbands computer so you can see it properly?

Yes just follow steps in post 32 in order, the download links and tutorials are intact.
When running the Rufus .exe, it doesn’t install anything, it’s basically portable. Once it is closed when you're finished, it’s no longer on the computer

Download ISO
Download RUFUS
Make a USB with RUFUS using ISO (see post 32)

perhaps open this thread on your husbands computer so you can see it properly?
Ya, I've been AWOL. needed a brain break!! I followed post 32, got that done. I did get laptop to boot from usb (apparently one needs to be inserted to see the option duh) and to windows setup BUT it will not install. I was typing notes to hubby's computer from wireless keyboard while in front of my laptop to copy/paste here. I hope this makes sense of sorts

I clicked on upgrade options to keep files, setting & apps and get “The upgrade option isn’t avail if you start computer using the installation media. Plz remove the install media and restart. After computer has started normally, insert the install media and run setup”. I remove usb and clicked close and goes back to install.

I’m not sure where I was at with this next comment :

Load driver window. A media driver your comp needs is missing. This could be a dvd, usb or hdd. If you have a cd, dvd, usb flash drive with driver on it, please insert it now. Note: if the installation media for Windows is on the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

When I clicked browse, I was shown these to look for a driver: Local disk C: & boot X: & cccoma_64fre_en-us_dv9 D: & uefi_ntfs E: I clicked on every option and get “no device drivers were found, make sure that the install media contains the correct drivers, then click ok”.

While a lot of things have been posted, I think this has been made to complicated.

If you insert a usb install disk for windows, you can use notepad to copy your files from your c drive to an external drive

If you do not have windows 11 on a usb disk ready to go, you may need to use someone elses PC to make it.

If any of this is way too complicated for you, STOP. And take it to best buy geek squad or more recommended, a local pc shop near you.

They can at least get your data back and then we can assist you on clean installing windows.

Yes the post got a bit complicated. I have copied my files to external using cmd prompt. The issue now is the Usb I created (hubby's desktop) following instructions in my previous post will not install windows. I am hoping to be able to keep files, settings and apps.
