Solved Should I update my BIOS before 24H2 is installed

I have a built system with ASUS Prime B760M-A AX D4 BIOS 1402 on my PC.

Do I need an update before the time comes to go to Windows 11 24H2? I have read conflicting information.

You don't need to update BIOS for installing Windows 11 24H2 you only need to update BIOS firmware for fixing bugs or for new BIOS features also Windows 11 24H2 is already released to public.

I can’t think of a reason why you shouldnt. Only update if you are sure of what you’re doing

You don't have an x415KA or X515KA laptop. Your motherboard doesn't seem to use Intel Smart Sound Technology. Are you running Easy Anti-Cheat?

You probably don't need to do anything to your BIOS to support 24H2.

However, I'd update it anyway to protect your I7-13700 from potential damage (which is unrelated to Windows).

You may be able to go directly to the latest version, 1812. BIOS updates are typically cumulative, but there are exceptions. Looking down the list, I didn't spot any requirements for installing any BIOS between 1402 and 1812. Presumably the BIOS updater won't let you install 1812 if any prior ones are needed.

I suggest using the EZ Flash 3 utility. It's simple. It is described in the motherboard's manual.

One possible worry about a BIOS update would be an interruption in electric power to the PC. Probably not an issue if you don't experience frequency power glitches. If you have a dog, you may want to keep it out of the room during the update. (A few years ago, I read a post from someone seeking help because his dog pulled the power cord during an update.)

One detail: the ZIP file for the BIOS contains a BIOS renamer utility. You don't need to use that for a regular BIOS update. It's only needed with the Crash Free 3 BIOS recovery routine. Barring very unusual bad luck, you'll never need to recover the BIOS.

There is not need to use another app to update your bios if you have the Acer Care Center app on your laptop. It can keep all your drivers and bios updated. It's good for a novice to use. If you do not have it you can go to the Acer support site, enter your SN#, and get it.

The BIOS update is categorized as a Critical Update (CU) and is available through Windows Update.
While the safeguard remains in place, it will gradually be lifted as more devices receive the update.
Users are advised to check for updates in Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates
to ensure compatibility with Windows 11, version 24H2.

@Alicia J as bobkn mentions Asus EZ Flash 3 is very simple to use. You'll need a USB drive formatted as Fat32.
It doesn't need to be very large, I have a old 1GB USB drive to update mine.

After you've downloaded and unzipped your BIOS file, copy the .CAP file to the USB drive.

Reboot your computer. As it's rebooting, repeatedly tap the DEL key, this will take you into your BIOS. Then just follow your manual's
instructions.

Quick tip: While in your BIOS, selecting F12 will allow you to save a screenshot to the USB drive.

Resolution:

This issue has been resolved with a BIOS update provided by ASUS. Devices with ASUS models X415KA and X515KA running a BIOS version lower than 311 will need to install the latest BIOS update to remove the safeguard and proceed with the Windows 11, version 24H2 upgrade. The BIOS update is categorized as a Critical Update (CU) and is available through Windows Update. While the safeguard remains in place, it will gradually be lifted as more devices receive the update. Users are advised to check for updates in Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates to ensure compatibility with Windows 11, version 24H2.

EZ Flash 3 is built-in to the BIOS of Asus motherboards.

The only download needed is of the firmware file itself.

You can tell by the size of the drive. Here, fs9 is my 1GB (996 MB) usb drive, on which the bios file resides.
