Solved Upgrading 22H2 to 24H2

Your advice is to install your version after revo uninstalling the other version of @Ghot and @Porthos, do a system image using your version, then once the trial ends I should have a macrium reflect free version - I hope I understand correctly.

If you are now running Reflect Free v8.0.7783 then that is correct, there were no further updates after that one. But that is not a problem, I know from personal experience it will run in all versions of Windows 11, including the latest Insider Canary builds.

You don't need to use Revo, Reflect can be uninstalled successfully from within Windows. If you have installed a trial of v8.0 then it reverts to Free at the end of the trial. If you have a trial of v8.1 then it reverts to a 'restore only' version. Reflect v8.0 was the last one to have a Free version.

I know, but @Ghot has specifically mentioned me as he knew that I am familiar with all versions of Reflect.

If you followed @Porthos directions, you should be OK.
BUT... you need to tell us the version number. The version number tells all. It's like a crystal ball.


For any questions concerning software on these forums... always include the version number.

Normally this would NOT be an issue and upgrading would not deactivate or remove your digital license.

BUT..... because of your "workaround" to get Windows installed in the first-place things may be different. Without those "workarounds", a simple upgrade will not deactivate your OS or remove your digital license.

What I would do is backup or create an image prior to attempting the upgrade, then try the upgrade. Here if all goes well, you aren't stuck with needing complicated procedures to get the OS going again. If things go awry, at least you've got your image and or backups.

I understand the concept of (you must figure out what to do to help yourself) but I have no idea where to start, all I know it that I want 24H2 (or the latest) and I want it to be activated when Im finished.

All that said, and being you're a novice, I might suggest you ask the same friend who did the workaround to also install 24H2 themselves.... again, with images or backups at the ready.

Im currently doing a macrium reflect backup
I chose the middle option "create an image......" then I entered e: as my destination (e: is my external drive)
Its doing its thing - has an hour and half left, oh just gone up to 2 hrs 30 mins

oh the version is 7783 I think, it wont let me check while its busy doing the backup, will confirm when I can.

Reflect shows the version number at the top left of the tittle bar. You should still be able to read it even while making a backup, just click and drag the backup status window out of the way (or resize it) if it's in the way. Reflect v8.0.7783 was the latest and last version of Reflect Free. If you have Reflect Trial v8.0.7783 then it will revert to Free at the end of the trial.

Quick question - hopefully not off topic.
When my external drive is plugged in to the USB - its the drive the macrium backup is stored on, My computer seems to stop booting at the splash screen (???) of the mother board. Is Macrium trying to boot from the backup? I havent checked in the bios yet but does macrium change the boot order. Unplugging it before I power on it boots successfully into windows as usual. This behaviour only started after the backup was done.

I've just been going through the instructions on post #2 of this thread, Im a little lost to be honest - I understand that I need to make the iso to bypass the requirements - seems easy enough - that's where I get stuck, what do I do from there. Currently downloading the ISO via the media creation tool - it'll be a while, my internet connection isn't the best at the moment.

Hello - an update
I am now running 24H2 and I must say it already seems a vast improvement to 22H2. I made the Rufus iso with the option suggested. Then the friend that originally loaded windows on my computer, took over. Now he doesn't listen and does his own thing, I wanted to follow you guys advice but he decided to do his own thing. To cut a long story short, he basically loaded onto this computer not as an upgrade but like a clean install - I lost everything. Thank heavens for OneDrive where my documents are stored. In the install when it finally asks about an internet connection, I could not get my Wi-Fi to connect so I continued the install using a local account, when it was done I switched to a Microsoft account. Suddenly I remembered to check if i was activated - I was NOT, I think there was an option to troubleshoot, I clicked on it and after a few minutes a message saying (this computer is now activated) appeared. I spent the rest of yesterday, reinstalling lost apps and getting things back to as they were. I think I'm sorted now but there's probably something I've missed. Now since I never got to test you guys advice on installing I am going to go through the post and like/thank the relevant people. Thank you guys I am sure your advice would have worked perfectly had I got the chance to use it.
