I've been ploughing hard into Proton Mail for the last few days and, I'm severely impressed!
If their Desktop client comes to fruition in early 2024, I'll definitely dive into it further.

Proton Mail is an absolutely gorgeous, fast, fluid, well structured, well thought out, feature rich application! They've paid real close attention to so many fine details!
And, the sample below is simply the web version in a PWA window!
Don't be fooled though, they do want your money, but, the free version is more than adequate for a single mailbox user.
If this looks like it's going to be a winner and major contender, I'm going to create a thread for it.

I've been a Microsoft Office/365 subscriber for many years, and have always used Outlook because it's included. Other than the "New Outlook", I tend to stick with what's familiar and does what I need.

The more I fool around with it, the better it feels and functions, not to mention looks!
Fast, fluid, pristine buttons and controls, plenty of rich features..., they put a lot of thought into this!
And, remember, these are web apps I'm using..., I hope the forthcoming Desktop App doesn't disappoint!

I have no doubt about that, it's not my intention to condemn anyone's use of a superior product, as a matter of fact, I think Office still ranks up there as one of the most brilliant pieces of software ever..., Classic Outlook is probably still the best version, especially for professionals, but, it's such a dinosaur! 🤷‍♂️
It has so many ancient features that, as a casual user, I'll never touch, and, an endless list of confusing, convoluted Options that I have yet to make my way completely through!

Never needed a so call email "client" mailto nonsense.
I just use webmail much more straight forward and any weird garbage stays on the email server not my machine.

I happily use a mail client from about the beginning of mail over Internet (maybe somewhere in the 90's) and save all my correspondence on my local computer / local server.

That you think different does not mean that the other methods should be designated as 'nonsense'!

If I want to save anything I just create a folder and send it there this is no different that office outlook/... can be used
Or simply flag it but this way is short term because it gets cluttered pretty quickly

Only real difference is one needs a internet connection for access.

Webmail is also more straight forward for cellphone access simply login no special configuration...

My original and all time favorite email program was Outlook Express, because the others available at the time were Sick, Sick, Sick.
Outlook Express morphed into Windows Mail along about Windows Vista. (NOT Windows LIVE Mail) That one really sucked!

I found a way to get Windows Mail to work in Windows 7 and 8.1, although MS did not support that.
Enter Windows 10, and a friend told me about "O.E.Classic" which is NOT a product of the US, but very well supported.
I looked at it and found it to be almost a clone of my old favorite Outlook Express. It's free for two email addresses and very reasonable for more. They do provide periodic Updates for free.

I do have more than just two email addresses, that I want checked, every three minutes, all day, so I bought the Pro Version.
There are not a lot of extras in the Pro version, but limitless Email Accounts, and very intuitive, and In Line, Spell Checking.
Since Outlook Express was my old favorite, O.E.Classic is just great for me.
I have mine set to check my Gmail every three minutes, all day long, as long as my PC remains ON. It loads automatically when I first boot up my PC in the morning.

When I first boot up my PC, the first thing I hear is my Intro Music, and the next thing I hear is "You've got mail!" ( a sweet female voice, not the old male voice from AOL)
I do nothing to get my morning mail....it's all automatic.

My computer works for me, I don't work for it.

Ditto. I'm not sure it's been 25 years, but I've been using it forever and three days. The Microsoft 365 subscription here too. Not the new Outlook, but I guess I should test it to be sure I actually hate it. :devilish:

That's actually a matter of opinion, as I don't, and never have found the "Office" version of Outlook to be crap. Perspectives.

But I do agree with the "Outlook" naming and the confusion it is causing. Now when I see posts about "Outlook" are we talking the Windows or Office version :unsure:

Why Microsoft decided to call the Windows mail app Outlook, while also keeping the Office mail app as Outlook, is mind boggling 🤷‍♂️
