Not sure where to start. I bought this HP Laptop July 12, 2024 and haven't had a chance to work with it.
Finally a week ago I tried to turn it on and WHOOPS, my Network connection on Comcast by WiFi was available and I was notified thru my Phone and if I wanted to approve it, so I did.
(I haven't participated much in the Tech World in some years, lots of things have changed on a personal level).

I have my Details listed for both Systems and hope I got it right (mostly Integrated stuff with exception of external things I've added over years to the Toshiba Win 8.1 x64 Laptop). Lots of the externals will be moved to the Win 11 Pro in time.

I finally gave in and Upgraded my Comcast connection and decided to use their Modem. I had my own TP-Link Modem and TP-Link Router for years.
My current system I'm on has been messed up for over a year, needed a reformat, never had time tho. Hooked up Wired currently and no WiFi on this Toshiba Win 8.1 x64 Laptop. But on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+, Roku Express 4K+ and Samsung Galaxy Note10+ I'm connected by the WiFi I setup with new Comcast equipment.

I haven't turned back on new HP Win 11 Pro in 6 days. But I do know that I ended up connecting Wireless and it did do some Microsoft updates. I seen the desktop and looked at some settings but that's about it. This B.S. with Microsoft account is invading my Privacy (as I'm sure many others Worldwide have stated).

I have been reading and doing research on this "S" Mode stuff but not comfortable with it and where my HP stands (haven't turned it on yet as I'm posting this). I know I couldn't bypass some stuff in beginning, I couldn't even do a Hard Restart. I seen that "Work or Domain" option, but that has to be what I went with and will post here shortly after I "Fire-up" the HP Win 11 Pro.

Thanks for letting me SPILL and I'm taking a short Food break b4 I "Fire UP" the HP Win 11 Pro.

Regards, Sherri

Are you asking for help or just having a disorganised rant?

In general rants are pointless as they are difficult to follow, usually inaccurate and do not endear forum members to help.

I have been using Open Shell, previously Classic Shell, so my Screens have resembled Win7 Pro, WinXP, Win98SE, Win98, etc . . .

Thank you for the advice,

I have been reading and doing research on this "S" Mode stuff but not comfortable with it and where my HP stands (haven't turned it on yet as I'm posting this)
S Mode is restrictive in what one can do or sources of programs one can install. I bought a new HP cheap-o Notebook [$175.00] with Win11 Home back in Dec. just to get the included year of Microsoft 365 so I could learn more about it. It's a good machine but not for heavy business use and came in S-Mode. After initial setup I got rid of S-Mode but did keep it set as Microsoft Account with Administrator Rights [all my other machines are Local Account only]. I haven't seen S-Mode on a Pro install yet.

One change Win11 has versus Win10 is no 32-bit/x86 version but it still can run 32-bit programs. I'm having no issues with programs I have on Win10 but also on Win11. For the really old ones I can't run on Win11 I put on a Win7 I've kept.

Thank you ANTSPANTS.
Most important is if I'm not in that "S" MODE. From what I can tell I'm not, but I did take Pictures with my phone and haven't figured out an easier way to get it to the Toshiba Laptop im Currently on, GRRRR..

I've got the version details now: Win 11 Pro, version 23H2 build 22631.3880
I am able to be more specific with Dates and the Updates that Happened.

09-05-2024: KB5041655,
09-06-2024: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1020.0,
09-12-2024: KB5040442 (Cumulative Update)

That was the last time I had the HP on until yesterday. Spent hours looking thru stuff. Gonna take me some time.
But when I did start it up lastnite and today, I did have the WiFi connection disabled. It shows Updates paused until 10-27-2024. That's fine
until I can get the Desktop LQQK-ing back to the old way I've been using for years now.

Regards Sherri

p.s.. Took me a few hours to figure how to post this reply to you. I have another person or 2 to respond to yet.

Hi, Sherri.

I think you could, if you wanted to, save yourself a lot of stress and adapt.
There have been a few updates since your Build: 22631.3880. It might be a good idea to run Windows update but it’s not entirely necessary just yet, that is of course unless you’re having issues with Windows in which case I’d advise you to update.

As for looking the way you’re used to, once again, please LIST what it is you’re talking about.
So far we’re about 10 posts into this thread and we no nothing of much about what it is you want from us.

So maybe take a breath and please list.

I would like Windows to do these things or look as they used to:

  • Taskbar now does this
    • What it used to look like or do

  • Desktop now does this
    • What it used to look like or do

  • ..Start Menu now does this
    • What it used to look like or do

  • ..

  • Etc etc
As for your photos: If you use an iPhone or Android (what else is there?) You could try Phone Link or Intel Unison in Windows.
If either aren’t installed, you can get them from Microsoft Store.
Type their names in search bar (Or Win Key + S) or check your Start Menu to see if they are installed.
