Agreed, the telemetry, bloat, and spyware definitely take a hit to performance.

That being said, some people really aren't interested in these things, and would rather complain about the discussion itself. I can't imagine what it would be like with that perspective, and I'm glad. I enjoy reading posts by others like you @Marie SWE , and knowing there are others that share my concerns regarding privacy, telemetry, beacons, screenshots being sent for survey, etc. It all affects privacy, civil liberties, processing power, bandwidth, etc.

Using tools like O+O ShutUp10++, Anti-Beacon, Anti Spyware and Anti Malware programs, turning off widgets, modifying hosts files, and other tweaks really allows Windows 11 to shine, be very responsive, and a good value.
Thanks :-)
I dont mind the basic telemetry if you are given a choice.. I remember in XP or if it was in the beginning of win7.. you had a opt in function if you wanted to participate in the quality program or what it was called. But it should be an opt in function.. and the telemetry then should be as it was in the past.. about errors, and that kind of stuff.. and a popup asking if you want to send the telemetry information or not.
That was good microsoft i liked.. and i did participate in that program on my lab-computers, as i often crashed them and infected them with malware for evaluation.. and that information i did send to Microsoft as i felt they have use for it..
But on my personal computer and my work computer.. not even a Bit of telemetry leaves my network.

*lol* 😅 "Anti-Beacon, Anti Spyware and Anti Malware"... anti computer, anti OS and Anti internet.(y)
I think its good they do software like that for less computer-savvy people, so you dont have to become a IT technician to reclaim the right to privacy and also to slim-down the OS footprint so it runs smoother and also in the end saves electricity as you have a system that isn't under load all the time.
say 10 billion computers that saves 10watt of electricity/computer.. that is a lot.
On my win7 machine i have as multimedia system.. i have set my drives to power down after an hour to get the computer to run quieter (6xHDD) and even my system-drive power down if i leave my computer alone as i dont have crap running in the background. 0% disk activity..
and i know.. that is possible on a win11 system too.. as win7 and win11 is more or less the same OS.. just that 11 has a bit more topping. :-)

So you sorta stumbled into the magazine while browsing? I don't think our mall had a store like that. We had a record shop, mcdonalds, arcade, orange julius, the big cookie store lol, toy store, and the usual clothes and shoe stores.
Here you have a bit of the late 90's swedish PC magazine History/nostalgia :-)
I posted this picture a year or two ago on a swedish forum.. Its a piece of history i have saved as i collect retro computers.. i have a bunch of magazines almost in mint condition.
I know its in swedish, but a lot of swedish words is similar to english and some PC-magazines used english words back then

I loved Windows XP, and then loved Windows 7, and now love Windows 11. I didn't like Windows 10, and found it to be clunky, bloated, and a performance dog. Once Windows 11 came out, I was so pleased it was different from the Windows 10 I despised for so long.

I still have a Windows 7 Pro PC and for the longest time, tweaked all of the Windows 7 Pro PCs with esu to continue to get security updates, etc.
It was a GREAT OS. I am only hoping the 24H2 bugs will get fixed soon so that it doesn't have any weird cosmetic glitches in Windows Explorer, sound driver issues, etc.

I've heard some talk about the Windpows Explorer 3 dot glitch, but why would I want to have to install a 3rd party app to fix it?! Ridiculous!

Not really!
Perhaps you could conjure up a sentence or two explaining WHY you don't like Windows 11?

Otherwise, if there is no inference of a reason or reasons (if plural), what is the point?

"Not really" is an idiom that means to partially disagree or to indicate a weak negative response. It's a softer way of saying "no".

Forums are great for discussion so, perhaps you could squeak out a few sentences of reasons?

Okay.. i dont follow politics at all.. i only care about it a few months before election.. and then i dont care about it again for four years :-)

I only follow politics enough to stay current and usually struggle to avoid it. It's like religion where people believe things without evidence then dismiss all evidence against what they believe lol. There is no point debating if the winner is predetermined.

If you like history and that kind of stuff.. you might like a youtube channel i ran in to a week ago.... Lets see if i can find it again.. i remember the video was about our swedish fighter jet........... Yeah here it is.. Megaprojects

Yep, I've seen that channel. There are many good channels on youtube and not just about history.

Anna Cramling lives in Sweden and both her parents are chess grandmasters Anna Cramling

I'm not very good at chess but I sometimes like to watch people who are, and how they joke with each other.
https://www.youtube.com/@megaprojects9649
I have not watched the channel.. i only watched the video about our fighter jet, as it was kind of fun to hear what other thinks about our stuff... even i dont really care. :-)
I'm not so much for history.. i almost flunked my history tests in school. i got a D if i remember right...

I never liked history in school either. I thought how silly, why do we need to know that? I was more interested in math and science but I took math as far as I could and science... I guess I feel the same way. The future isn't knowable, the present is too stressful, so I look to the past for entertainment lol

as for censorship in sweden, we dont have anything of that. (yet)... i know EU is trying to pass a bill for moderation of less desirable material if its illegal in another EU country, then other EU countries should take down information if the other country demands it.. But i dont think it will pass.. no domains is blocked in the internet, you still have full freedom of speech, right to privacy etc.. (yet)....

Yep, many of those videos will be banned in Sweden eventually. Sweden's Parliament Approves Proposal to Outlaw Holocaust Denial and Distortion - World Jewish Congress

It's coming to the US too. Hate speech was the first step, now they'll lump any criticism of certain groups into the existing hate speech framework. It's a slippery slope and who knows where it will end. If you're not allowed to offend anyone then you're not allowed to talk.

We're being assimilated into the Borg lol Borg - Wikipedia

Most of our Banks dont handle cash,

That's incredible. It's inconceivable for a bank to not have cash. I've seen banks not have enough cash and ask me to come back tomorrow, but to not have cash at all kinda undermines what it means to be a bank.

i use my card for almost everything. I still have cash laying here at home just in case the payment system goes down.
And now someone might react.. card.. no privacy.. But our banks or shops dont sell the transaction information to third party... as i know they do in some countries... and i dont hide from our tax office that might be interested in my income/earnings :-)

I don't use cash much either but have been thinking I probably should. A cashless society isn't about privacy, but about control. If there is no cash then the government can turn off your ability to trade if you don't comply with their decrees.

And about being offtopic, my vote is for conversations to be allowed to unfold however they do. People in a ski lodge probably aren't just talking about skiing. People can always choose what they want to read, or they can choose to steer the conversation. And if the answer to my question is on the first page of a book, I don't complain that there are 500 more pages to the book that have nothing to do with my problem. It seems the only effect of relegating content to the topic is to stifle engagement and reduce us to bots robotically dispensing answers.

Perhaps you could conjure up a sentence or two explaining WHY you don't like Windows 11?

I'm not the one you were addressing but I'll bite anyway lol

I don't like win11 because it has taken me so long to undo the changes to put it back to an efficient form. I have so many 3rd party apps helping to do that, such as Explorer Patcher, Shut up 10, Winareotweaker. The changes are changes just to change stuff and often they're just adding more steps to do the same thing, such as the context menu now has a subsection requiring an extra click, and moving files to a folder with the same name requires extra clicks to have the files automatically renamed. Now there is a settings app in addition to the control panel which makes finding a setting harder than ever. I don't like being compelled to have a microsoft account or having to be an expert in windows in order to know to use rufus to avoid all the hassles that never should have been. I don't like fearing my drives will be encrypted without my knowledge. It just seems a neverending list of complaints and frustration. It's a bit of a puzzle to me imagining what it is people like about it. Maybe that it's different? A square wheel is different but doesn't mean it's efficient.

I do agree that Windows 11 would be better without so many automatically added items such as spotify, instagram, one drive, etc. The assumed MS account login is also something that I do not use or wish to be there. With more complex solutions and more full featured operating systems, there will be more clicks required to tweak an OS as you see fit. Likely any OS depending on the skill or particularity of the end-user will require lots of clicks, configuration, and tweaking. If someone is more of a basic user end user and not a power user or experienced computer user, there may be a lot less tweaking and just accepting things as they are.

Once configured and tweaked though, I think most would agree Windows 11 is a pretty darn good OS for the most part.

Ok whatever you think is best. Wherever I go, threads grow HUGE! lol

I was recruited to be a mod on another (dying) forum where I thought engagement was the top priority: ie keeping people around and using the site, but admin said to go elsewhere to talk about other things. Odd position to take for a for-profit site with a leg in the grave, but whatever. At least everything will be on-topic when the site is taken down lol. So I left and now I'm adding content here. Honestly, I'd like to start my own forum where the members make the rules through a democratic process but not sure I will ever get around to it. The older I get the harder it is to learn new things and it's too easy to find other places to talk.

Yeah once it's put back like win7 then it's not too bad lol. But then is it really win11 anymore?

Here's a post showing in more detail what I'm complaining about Are you happy with Windows 11

It seems like win7 was the pinnacle OS and now to justify having a job they're forced to find things to change. So they put the start button in the middle just to change something. Honestly I'd wish they would be paid to take naps or go on vacation rather than making more work for me to do.

All valid observations, gripes and comments. Still, it's not . . . "BAD".
My start button is still on the left.

Well, I updated to 24H2 and all seems fine. All performance and sound is working normal as it was with 23H2.

I did did an update in place from 23H2 to 24H2. It did take a while but without any problems or difficulty whatsoever.
My update to 24H2 was not done through Windows Update. Instead, I followed the very easy and outstandingly simple and detailed instructions for unsupported hardware updating to 24H2, and it worked flawlessly. The video explains how to upgrade an existing Windows 11 installation on unsupported hardware that is on version 23H2, 22H2 or even older, to the latest version of Windows 11, 24H2.

No USB was required, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for those wanting to update (only if their CPU supports SSE4.2).

Upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 from Windows 11 23H2, 22H2 or older on Unsupported Hardware

Definitely worth a watch! (y)

Is it just me, or is 24H2 FASTER than 23H2? Holy cow, Windows seems zippy quick after that 24H2 update and a couple of Windows Update patches.

, but i think this thread should be about... are you happy with win11 and if not, what can we do about it to make it better :-)
I am not happy with Windows 11 customization features. It doesn't let me add a Stop button on the taskbar that, when clicked, makes Elon Musk use his own algorithms on X to stop himself from being such an obvious troll about German politics.

I don't know if it's faster but I can say 23H2 sure seems slow. Imagine spending $3000 on the top cpu, board, ram that is available, yet a pc I built in 2011 is still faster at most things. Maybe it's all the security stuff... idk.

*lol* 😅 I have a feeling Microsoft and Musk is to good of friends.. so the risk is if you ask you get a Like Musk button instead. :winkt:

No, i am not happy with windows 11. Force installed updates, force installed irremovable features like Xbox, Phone Link, Focus Assist and others, lack of customization we had in windows 10 such as taskbar size, and the waste of space useless "recommend" section and many more.

At least i have a escape and dual boot Ubuntu witch is slowly but surely becoming what i mainly use.
