Are you happy with Windows 11

I can't find my zip drive. I must have put it in some place special. But I'm pretty sure it was external which means it's either serial or parallel port. I only used it because the engineering college wanted us to and as soon as that class was over I went straight into burning cds instead. Growing up with cassettes and VHS I wanted to get as far from magnetics as I could lol
I hope you find the drive some day.. just for the nostalgia so to speak. :-)
I have my stuff on shelf's in my computer rool.. so most of the times, i find what I'm looking for within a minute or two... (keyword = most of the times)
Yeah.. VHS and cassette tapes... and big fat loudspeakers.... is a great combo :eyeroll:... or not *lol*

That's probably why the movie hack didn't work after the movie came out. Soda cans stopped having those peel off tabs too about that time.

I don't know... have to google it lol. I haven't seen a payphone in 15 years for sure.
The movie Hack... I have to look that one up.. in case i have missed out on something.
I didn't find it on IMDB.. has it another title or?
IMDB is a bit evil sometimes as some movies is shown by a swedish title.. and then you dont see the original title until you open the page

Edit
i had one more payphone hack.. But as the rule is as they are in here and some countries might still have them in use.. I best keep quiet about that one as it most likely still works

Wish I could help but I haven't been into movies much since the 80s. Once we got cable I kinda gravitated to informative stuff like discovery and history channel, and now pretty much live on youtube, although now with their censorship I'm thinking of going somewhere else. Stuff I used to watch on PBS on tv in the 90s is now blurred out on youtube.

I have/had movies and series as an interest since i dont know when, and as I'm not in to tech since mid 00's.. i spend more time on movies/series to disconnect from the digital world..

a lot of youtober also have channels on rumble.com and odysee.com to avoid the youtube censorship..

Rumble etc only has political stuff. I'd have to join a pay site.

I use it as a distraction too, but my problem with movies is they are too unbelievable, and nowadays they're too political/social engineering.

Stuff like this is more what I like. So is Sweden a cashless society now?

Rumble i only know of.... but on odysee.com you have David Bombal that is an IT channel also on youtube with network stuff and also pentesting stuff.. and you also have Naomi Brockwell that is about internet privacy.. and a bunch of others.
So Rumble might be political.. but odysee is also youtubers that want to speak about things they dont want to get censorship for.
I only watch the two i mention on odysee as i know they talk about a bit more there then on youtube.
But i dont watch many on youtube.. i think there is four or five i watch.

Yes and no, on the cashless society question.. Yes you can shop almost everywhere without cash.. paying with your phone, credit card.. some shops do not take cash, but that is non society essential.. as some few clothing stores, some few technology stores, car dealers dont take cash over $1000 (if i remember right)
But all stores like grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, medical things etc etc is written by law they have to accept cash.. its a part of swedish civil defence Civil defence
so even if we are under a cyberattack and our banking system goes down or the whole internet goes down.. the society will still function. :-)
I know USA military is impressed of the civil defence concept after they have had a bit more insights after we joined NATO and US military have been here on exercises.. both for arctic conditions and other things.

So do not believe everything they say. ;-)

How could anyone know those hacks without the internet?

I was actually on the internet in the late 80s but it ran up a $1000 phone bill, so dad put a quick stop to that lol. I didn't learn any hacks though :(
Ah the memories! Thanks for the great posts, they've dug up some fun old memories. No, I didn't use slugs, but I used to read 2600 magazine a lot, and back in the 90's I read an article in 2600, and went to Radio Shack and bought a pocket tone-dialer and ordered a chip from Digi-Key. After the chip arrived, I eagerly opened the dialer and swapped the frequency chip inside with my new one from Digi-Key. I couldn't wait to try it on a drive-up payphone in a convenience store parking lot. As I recall it was the asterisk key, and it generated the tone a quarter makes after it's paid into the payphone slot.

I didn't exploit it much, just wanted to know if it worked. Yes, it did. Fun memories.

In retrospect, I should have gave some to friends. I had 2 extra chips from Digi-Key because I had to order a pack of 3 (if memory serves correct).
It looked like this . . .

Thanks for the memories :)

There are a couple political podcasts I download from bitchute, and a handful of youtube economic podcasts that I sometimes follow, but mostly what I watch is "learning about the past" (documentaries) rather than "predicting the future" (economics) or "complaining about the present" (politics).

It's all great except recently youtube began blurring the videos if they don't think I should see something. I think AI is doing it.

If you search WW2 in bitchute or rumble you'll only get what's probably illegal to watch in your country. Their content is basically ONLY videos that youtube won't allow. I didn't check odysee.

But all stores like grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, medical things etc etc is written by law they have to accept cash.. its a part of swedish civil defence Civil defence

The video I watched didn't give that impression at all lol. Maybe places will accept cash, but you cannot find cash very easily. They showed a woman having to drive far away to find a special bank that would dispense cash. Is that true?

I know USA military is impressed of the civil defence concept after they have had a bit more insights after we joined NATO and US military have been here on exercises.. both for arctic conditions and other things.

The US is way behind the world in civil defense. I hear about that all the time on the videos I watch. There are no shelters and no plan as far as I know. It would be everyone for themselves. But in the US I don't think people are thinking about civil defense, but freedom from tyranny, when choosing to transact in cash.

Ok, so where did you find the magazine? lol! I never heard of it. I was probably the only kid in my school who had a computer, and it was just a commodore 64. All I could do with it is type in the machine language code printed in magazines to have it ask me questions then print a picture in asterisks lol. There was no network of friends or any way to learn anything.

Thanks for the memories :)

I found a few memories digging through the old boxes. The little keyboard port to usb port plugs I used to treasure lol. Voodoo 3dfx graphic card. BNC network cards.

2600 Magazine ( www.2600.com/Magazine/CoverGallery ) started back in the 80s as a hacker quarterly & phreaking magazine. 2600 Magazine was about the size of a Reader's Digest magazine, and I used to buy it at a newstand/magazine type store that had a large selection of magazines and newspapers. I still see 2600 magazine (2600 News | 2600 www.2600.com) being sold near the checkout line at stores like MicroCenter (Micro Center - Computer & Electronics Retailer - Shop Now www.microcenter.com).

So you sorta stumbled into the magazine while browsing? I don't think our mall had a store like that. We had a record shop, mcdonalds, arcade, orange julius, the big cookie store lol, toy store, and the usual clothes and shoe stores.

This thread is totally offbeam and just a giant privacy Nazi rant now.

So tedious zzzzzzzz.......
Perhaps you should join us, the privacy "thingy" is a needed feature..
even if you dont care about privacy, then you might care of that all that stuff makes your system more bloated, and have less performance for your apps, games and so on.. higher CPU activity, higher disk activity, more network activity, more ram usage.
When you debloat windows and rip out the telemetry crap, you can lower the processes to around 50 instead over 120 or what a win11 system has after boot and down to around 1GB ram usage.. and disk activity almost ceases..
So this spyware they start to bloat windows with do lower the computer performance.. for you that like and are fine with sharing your data with the Big five and those they sell/share the information to. :-)

Agreed, the telemetry, bloat, and spyware definitely take a hit to performance.

That being said, some people really aren't interested in these things, and would rather complain about the discussion itself. I can't imagine what it would be like with that perspective, and I'm glad. I enjoy reading posts by others like you @Marie SWE , and knowing there are others that share my concerns regarding privacy, telemetry, beacons, screenshots being sent for survey, etc. It all affects privacy, civil liberties, processing power, bandwidth, etc.

Using tools like O+O ShutUp10++, Anti-Beacon, Anti Spyware and Anti Malware programs, turning off widgets, modifying hosts files, and other tweaks really allows Windows 11 to shine, be very responsive, and a good value.

The video I watched didn't give that impression at all lol. Maybe places will accept cash, but you cannot find cash very easily. They showed a woman having to drive far away to find a special bank that would dispense cash. Is that true?

The US is way behind the world in civil defense. I hear about that all the time on the videos I watch. There are no shelters and no plan as far as I know. It would be everyone for themselves. But in the US I don't think people are thinking about civil defense, but freedom from tyranny, when choosing to transact in cash.
Okay.. i dont follow politics at all.. i only care about it a few months before election.. and then i dont care about it again for four years :-)

If you like history and that kind of stuff.. you might like a youtube channel i ran in to a week ago.... Lets see if i can find it again.. i remember the video was about our swedish fighter jet........... Yeah here it is.. Megaprojects
I have not watched the channel.. i only watched the video about our fighter jet, as it was kind of fun to hear what other thinks about our stuff... even i dont really care. :-)
I'm not so much for history.. i almost flunked my history tests in school. i got a D if i remember right... as for censorship in sweden, we dont have anything of that. (yet)... i know EU is trying to pass a bill for moderation of less desirable material if its illegal in another EU country, then other EU countries should take down information if the other country demands it.. But i dont think it will pass.. no domains is blocked in the internet, you still have full freedom of speech, right to privacy etc.. (yet)....

Most of our Banks dont handle cash, a few do.. But we have ATM machines for both withdrawal and deposit.. But i also know some small towns have that problem you talk about.. But often they dont have tech stores and that kind of stuff either, so they have to go to the next town to buy a phone or a network cable etc.
The reasons our banks more or less have stopped handle cash was out of two reasons.. most people dont use cash since 15-20years back so its a lower demand for it.. and also to minimize the risk of bank-robbery.. I only know of one single person that still uses cash.. and he dont even own a computer or a smartphone.. i remember he got his first credit card/bank card just 5-6years ago.. he hates technology.. and he only drive old cars that dont even have fuel injection and all that tech crap, as he put it. *LOL*
I stopped using cash around 2005, i use my card for almost everything. I still have cash laying here at home just in case the payment system goes down.
And now someone might react.. card.. no privacy.. But our banks or shops dont sell the transaction information to third party... as i know they do in some countries... and i dont hide from our tax office that might be interested in my income/earnings :-)
