It's been so many years ago that I might be wrong . I think the knock out plugs on electrical boxes use to work as quarters in some vending machines.

I was actually on the internet in the late 80s but it ran up a $1000 phone bill, so dad put a quick stop to that lol. I didn't learn any hacks though :(

I didn't have a good source of knockout plugs or I may have tried that. But I do remember doing something like shooting coins back up the return slot. (y)

It worked on swedish payphones to get free calls.. it was two hacks.. on one model the shorting hack.. on the other one you had a dial up tone generator.. or you tap the phone hangup switch fast.. 0 was 1 tap.. 1 was 2tapps.. 3=4 and so on.. 9 was 10taps

I was wondering that the plug would be. If it's IDE then I have a IDE to USB plug, but I'm thinking it's probably something external like serial port. I'll go look in a few.

I also had three of them. They were all Iomega zip drives. the first one was in a computer I gave to a family member. The second one was the external drive I dropped and the third one is the internal drive I still have. It's still in the 5 1/4" adapter mount.

My internal zip drive may have been IDE. The next time I'm in the storage closet I'll check to see what it is. I do remember how it was so nice to have more drive space as compared to a 3 1/2" floppy drive.

my uncle worked for the swedish phone company back then.. he told me when i was around 8-10years old.. then he also told me how to fool the old analog switchboard to register outgoing calls as incoming calls.. so you didn't get to high phone bill.. but to not create suspicion at the phone company.. you only did that on every 4 or 5 call so you still had a normal bill so they didn't start to inspect the records.. sadly they switched to the newer switches half a year later with tone dial and then it didn't work anymore

Yeah it was nice.. :-) my Iomega is a 250MB drive.. the other one is a 2.2GB drive

I can't find my zip drive. I must have put it in some place special. But I'm pretty sure it was external which means it's either serial or parallel port. I only used it because the engineering college wanted us to and as soon as that class was over I went straight into burning cds instead. Growing up with cassettes and VHS I wanted to get as far from magnetics as I could lol

That's probably why the movie hack didn't work after the movie came out. Soda cans stopped having those peel off tabs too about that time.

I don't know... have to google it lol. I haven't seen a payphone in 15 years for sure.
