If after entering cd C:\windows\system32\drivers and then enter C:, it shows C:\windows\system32\drivers. However, If dir is entered the shorter list starting with letter l drivers shows.

For heck of it I went into the IRST in the bios it showed this:

There was no option to disable it.

Farbar: If I try to Search Registry, get "This functions outside Recovery Environment.

Tried this instead: Search Files: "iastorvd.sys"
Code:

See this link to boot into Windows RE.

This was reported as the driver location:

Code:
iaStorVD; C:\Windows\System32\drivers\iaStorVD.sys [1618640 2024-05-09] (Intel Corporation -> Intel Corporation)

In post #12 srttrail reported iastorvd.sys is corrupt so if it is possible reinstall this driver while in RE (see if Asus and Intel have troubleshooting steps)

The commands to view driver inf or oem did not find the driver.

Also open a new thread in EF with title: how to reinstall

dism /image:W:\ /Get-Drivers is attached plus more on the bootrec.

Code:
X:\sources>bootrec /fixmbr
The operation completed successfully.

X:\sources>bootrec /fixboot
Access is denied.

X:\sources>bootrec /scanos
Scanning all disks for Windows installations.

Please wait, since this may take a while...

Successfully scanned Windows installations.
Total identified Windows installations: 0
The operation completed successfully.

X:\sources>bootrec /nt60 all

Repairs critical disk structures. The following commands are supported:

/FixMbr -- writes the master boot record of the system partition using the master boot record compatible with Windows. This operation does not overwrite the existing partition table.

/FixBoot -- write a new boot sector onto the system partition using the boot sector compatible with Windows.

/ScanOs -- scan all disks for installations compatible with Windows and display the entries that are currently not in the boot configuration store.

/RebuildBcd -- scan all disks for installations compatible with Windows and allow the user to choose which to add to the boot configuration store.

Interesting that there were 0 Windows installations. However, this got out of the "Windows failed to start" as pictured in post #38. It went through the usual Diagnosing etc. to get back to the blue-screen automatic repair as pictured in post #21.

If IRST driver Iastorvd.sys can be reinstallled in Windows RE then that's a possible fix.

Please open support threads (Asus, Intel, EF) or consider:

a) custom install
or
b) manually backing up files and clean install

It turns out that I am already running not in Safe Mode but from 7) in the Startup Settings. It is in one of the links you provide above. I got to the Startup Settings by Pressing F8 at the screen shown in my Post #47. It was mentioned over at the ASUS forum to try Safe Mode and I happened to try F8. I saw that in the Startup Settings that 7) Disable driver signature enforcement was offered. I gave that a try and it worked. I have been running this way since late yesterday afternoon. Other than Chrome most everything seems to work. Every time I reboot, I must press F8, etc. I re-connected all my drives so that I could copy a lot of files which is ongoing as I write. The copying will take a good number of hours. For the moment, I will stay in this mode.

I have run V2. Hopefully running in this mode get what is needed. Here is the link: MAIN-COMPUTER-(2024-11-05_03-49-37).zip

Presumably, I can get into Safe Mode if this mode already is working. As time permits, I will work on this.

Can I try to add driver iaStorVD.sys in this mode via Device Manager? My iaStorVD.sys is 20.1.0.1013 (5/10/2024.) I can get 20.1.0.1016 (8/13/2024) over at [DRIVERS] Intel Chipset/MEI/VMD (6xx/7xx/8xx)

Thanks,
Jeff

The cmd prompts in administrative modes are attached while being in Secure Boot. The very first one gave this though:
Code:
C:\Windows\System32>bcdedit /set nointegritychecks off

An error has occurred setting the element data.

The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted.

You have a link to changing the Secure Boot. However, that will need to wait until all my copying in complete.

It is nice that I can copy and paste from here into the cmd window.

Enable or Disable Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist in Windows 11

Disabling Secure Boot not clear on my system. There is no security disable available as far as I can determine. Here there is only Custom or Standard. Standard is how it is usually configured.

Custom allows Key management. I did trust myself to Clear Secure Boot Keys.

2) The BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 1008, 1/13/2022

Upgrade the BIOS: 1008 > 3601

IRST installation worked! Hooray! The booted up normally.

It is not clear to be how to update the BIOS. Do I put it on a bootable USB drive? The download contains BIOSRenamer.exe and PZ690P.CAP.

Thanks much,
Jeff
