Hey all.

I cant upgrade my system to 24H2.
Here are the data of the problem :
1) I tried 3 methods :
-via ISO file
-via installation media (USB stick)
-via installation assistant

2) I tried with 2 options :
-download updates while updating
-no download updates

3) The problem appears when :
-installation goes to 100% and take a message "system will restart now". Then i take the error "Windows 11 installation failed"
-installation goes to 100% and take a message "system will restart now" and then it reboot at the 23H2 and stop the upgrade

4) Still i dont have the ability to try it via windows update as i dont have this option

5) Generally my system has this problem (perhaps when it reboots it dont found disk's drivers and cancels the procedure ?).

6) When i try for the first times i get an error "We couldn’t update system reserved partition”.
It solved after trying many solutions. It not appears now.

7) Here is the disk management image :
1728139839692.png
(1,47GB partition its WinRE that i create)

8) Here is the latest Setup Error Log file : setuperr.log

Any ideas ?

Thanks 👍

You can get 24H2 though Windows Update now, even if it is not yet being offered as an optional upgrade. I suspect you'll have the same problems though.....

Windows Update not offering 24H2 yet? Want Windows Update to get 24H2 straight away? Set the Target Release Version for 24H2 then check for updates.....

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Unfortunately, my wife's laptop had that issue right after we bought it. Did your Windows install come with the machine? I ended up having to copy the product key (machine came with Pro but only Home was in the BIOS), and do a clean install.

What is the CPU on the computer you can't upgrade? It must support SSE4.2 instructions, there is not any workaround for older CPUs. The only method that bypass compatibility check still working is to download the ISO and run Setup in Command Prompt. After you have the ISO, mount it (right-click, Mount or Open with File Explorer). Then disconnect from the internet (important) and open a Command Prompt as Administrator. You right-click on start button or press WIN+X and select it from the list. Then type this code:
Code:
D:
setup /product server
This switches to the virtual DVD (replace letter D with the appropriate letter) and loads Setup telling it is installing a Server edition of Windows, so it doesn't check compatibility.

This should succeed.

You can get 24H2 though Windows Update now, even if it is not yet being offered as an optional upgrade. I suspect you'll have the same problems though.....

You guess right. After 45 minutes and 2 restarts , it return to 23H2. I used the group policy editor option to try the upgrade via windows update.
But at least now a have an error code : 0x8007001f

1728146485219.jpeg

1728146504684.jpeg

Also i tried to perform the upgrade with safe mode , but there is another problem.
When i select the safe mode at msconfig , it dont give the "restart now" button.

Any on-board devices you can disable from the BIOS? Maybe a driver issue? Already running 23H2?
I think there is not devices to disable. No driver issues , running 23H2.

ok. run that batch i provided, disable NIC and run the iso > setup.exe

i understand your pc is compatible. so either
A) it will make no difference and wont work
B) it will work

have nothing to lose from trying it...

if not, hope you figure it out

batch ensure full compatibility with windows 11. like i stated, if you are compatible it wont make a difference.. if something somewhere isn't, it will allow the upgrade.

device manager > network adapters > your network card (realtek, intel, etc). re-enable it once upgrade is done
