Thoughts on Windows 11

I haven't moved past using 11 on a VM yet since, so far, I can't see any advantage to it for me. I'm in the group that doesn't care how the interface looks.

Prior to my retirement from software development, I always needed to be on top of the latest MS OS to ensure the software I was responsible for was compatible and stayed compatible. Now that I'm retired, I don't need to keep myself on the bleeding edge anymore, time for me to stay on the trailing edge now.

:) yup... But car makers didn't remove the radios from the cars and tell everyone to use a third party streaming service because the radio takes up to much space. ;) Yeah... people will continue to use it. They will just "get used to it." Complacency is a wonderful tool. The need for reliable transportation outweighs the need for the radio.
The radio has not been removed yet, but the cassette player, cigarette lighter, ash tray, spare tire have been removed, and the CD player will be next. They just remove stuff. It is up to the buyer to decide is they want it and how they will adapt.

Better hurry up and convert those old CD;s to .wav files. At least today's cars have USB ports.

Sounds like something running in the background? I found it speeded up a machine that was in Windows 10. But One Drive and Windows updates really slow up an old machine with a low powered processor.

Although I understand you point I think that your example is a little dated, my own car dates from 2004 and did not come with a radio, Cassette, or CD player It did not have a cigar lighter, ashtray, or spare Tyre as they were seen as surplus to requirements, on a sub 6 second 0-60 vehicle
I do have a media unit I fitted myself which is bluetooth connected to my phone and plays digital radio, For mostly traffic and news broadcasts, audio is an 1TB NVMe drive with around 50 000 tracks

Similarly my last several PCs have not come with Optical drives as they are obsolete, Who needs a dvd of around 5 GB when we now have access to portable drives of terabytes, and even USB Pen drives of 256 or 512 GB are easily available .
Yes I do have a portable BD writer for use when clients or suppliers who still use Optical media - but for things like driver disks and installers I immediately on receipt, convert them to .ISO and store them on my data Drives

Personally I would prefer a PC OS to be as compact as possible and allow the user to add the "bells & Whistles" as/if they require

My 2017 Ford Fusion came with a spare tire and tools to change it. It also came with a Radio with CD player. And as a collector of physical CD's, this was a welcomed addition ;)

As for cigarette lighter, I don't have one, but I don't need one since I don't smoke.

Was it a real spare or a donut?
It's a donut. But my car comes with stock 20 inch tires so a full size tire would take a lot of space trunk space.

My cousin has a 2017 Acura MDX with 20 inch tires (stock) and though the spare is located under the car, it's still a donut. That said, yes, I'm aware many cars today do not come with any type of spare tire (kind of dumb to me, but...).

Sounds like something running in the background? I found it speeded up a machine that was in Windows 10. But One Drive and Windows updates really slow up an old machine with a low powered processor.
I don't think i9-9900k is low powered processor.

The radio has not been removed yet, but the cassette player, cigarette lighter, ash tray, spare tire have been removed, and the CD player will be next. They just remove stuff. It is up to the buyer to decide is they want it and how they will adapt.

But car makers didn't remove the radios from the cars and tell everyone to use a third party streaming service because the radio takes up to much space.
But the 8 track, cassette, and CD players are gone and now we have Bluetooth and streaming.
Yes, I had 8 track in a VW as a kid.
Had a reel-to-reel recorder as well at home.

With the 22000.282 build. And AMD's updated chipset drivers. My gaming performance is pretty much on par with windows 10. Before today's update. My computer would hitch and found it especially notice if I had Corsair ICUE running. I would have to end tasked to gain some performance. But now it seems all good. Thank God. I was about to reinstall Windows 10.

Absolutely love your reply. Well thought out and reasoned.

Me? I feel naked without a spare tire. I live in a very rural area where there are probably more cows than people; and (even though T Mobile denies it) cell phone service is often spotty or even non existent. Even in the city, I have had to wait up to four hours for AAA to respond. Things can happen on a dark country road in four hours. Would you want to leave your husband/wife/son/daughter waiting there (or worse... stranded.), when they could just put a spare on in twenty minutes and be back in the road? If you did want to add a third party spare and jack to a car that doesn't have one, where would you put it?
No, I don't smoke. but I think that the MILIONS of people who do, aught to have the option of a lighter and an ashtray. Someone who probably doesn't smoke made a decision to inconvenience millions of people to "Save them from themselves"; or "They don't need that because the majority don't use it and smoking is hazardous and on the decline anyway". Really? Third party ashtrays are often spilled, and lighters lost or forgotten. A sometimes very annoying loss for those that smoke, but they are still going to use the car. Reliable transportation is often a necessity.

What if there were only three car manufacturers. One is expensive, locked down, you can only use it on predetermined routes, and you cannot upgrade it or work on the hardware yourself. If the hardware needs work, you can only use an "Authorized" mechanic that may not be near you.

Another needs you to be an engineer to be able to set up the car to use it, and is not supported everywhere you go. Although it is upgradable, you need to research and incorporate software that is sometimes complicated to install for every piece of hardware you add, because it's not natively supported. A lot of people who own this type of vehicle often set up a second engine from the third manufacturer, because it's more familiar, better supported, has a wider application range and is easier to set up and work on.

The third is fairly reasonably priced, not locked down, Upgrades are everywhere, add on hardware is fully supported, and a knowledgeable person can work on the hardware and easily upgrade it themselves. Imagine also, that the third manufacturer is the most popular, a standard in the majority of businesses and outsold the other two, two to one. Not only that, mechanics who work on that hardware are ubiquitous if something happens and you don't want to or can't work on it yourself.

Now imagine the third manufacturer took the radio and the spare tire out. Then, reconfigured the instrument panel so it doesn't give you complete information unless you search for it. not only that, they took out some features a tremendous amount of drivers asked to have back, only to be ignored by the manufacturer.

The choice is simple then. Use your new car as is, or switch to another manufacturer that may more restricted, has a high learning curve to operate, and/or may be way more difficult to use and work on.
I don't think it's apathy so much as fatalism that causes the majority of users to just accept things the way they are. Those of us that think we actually have an input may be fooling ourselves.

I understand and respect where you were going with your reply, and think you have a valid point. - I just wanted to present another point of view. I just hope it wasn't lost in the (Very long) story. :) (The radio analogy seems to have fallen flat. Multi millions of people still use the radio. Because streaming is popular is not a reason to loose it. BTW... I stream but also listen to the local station on the radio)

They took out the spare tire and jack to save weight to help them comply with the Federal gas mileage rule.

"If" that's true, removing a spare tire and the tools to change it isn't going to make much of a weight difference. This just sounds like an excuse to reduce vehicle production costs by eliminating emergency essentials like a spare tire and tools.

With that I think a spare tire and tools should be a "required" inclusion on vehicles with tires. That should be the federal law.

I've heard that some cars come with a can of Fix-A-Flat.
