Seventh Generation processors are now verboten as I have just discovered. My Windows 11 22H2 cannot upgrade to 23H2 so support ends next October. I am reverting to Windows 10 which lasts until October 2025. Why the heck did I not stick with W10? I never expected that Microsoft would be so rigid with enforcing compatibility.

You should be able to upgrade to 23H2 by replacing the appraiserres.dll file with an empty fake (read relevant thread). You must disconnect from the internet the whole duration and upgrade from the ISO. If you stay online it will fail due to a hidden online compatibility check.

You can just burn 23H2 to a usb and clean install it with the workarounds as usual.

Wish there was some way to use something like the OpenCore Patcher like you can on older Macbook's and iMac's as I had 2009 iMac whic I used the OpenCore Patcher to install macOS Big Sur and Monterey but my hardrive died soon after!

In 7th generation Intel you should be able to install Mac OS Big Sur or higher with a lot of hacking. It's not worth it though. You can bypass compatibility check and install Windows 11 and get the maximum out of your hardware.

To make your day, if you already run Windows 11 22H2 and you have reached at least build 22621.1506, then you can download and install the Windows 23H2 Enablement Package with converts 22H2 to 22H3 in a few seconds (unlocks the relevant features) without replacing the system files. This is done without checking compatibility and so you can do it in any system running Windows 11 22H2 without tricks. Then you can install all updates (except drivers) to get the current build and features of 23H2 and you are OK. Ideal for old SSDs or MMCs with limited free space that make the "traditional" upgrade (disconnecting from the internet, mounting the Windows 11 23H2 ISO, running Setup and replacing appraiserres.dll) difficult.

Things I rather do than give up Windows 11 because of 24H2 hardware requirements and install Linux.

No thanks, Linux sucks as a general purpose OS. I would rather spend time to find out a workaround and install 24H2 than waste time searching Ubuntu forums how to do simple tasks using the Terminal.

We're not in the 90's, you can do simple tasks in Ubuntu using the UI.

As for windows, your best bet for a workaround is another windows source code leak.

I know what you mean. I have no problems using the linux terminal for the odd thing but I couldn't use it as an everyday operating system due to not having the same program access as I do on Windows. And the fact file managers aren't quite as easy to use and work in a different way. And not being able to download programs from the internet. That's where it stops short for me. I wouldn't want to use Gimp or alternative programs for photo and video editing. Linux is fine for a netbook or portable computer though, just for web browsing. I know people do use it as an every day operating system but it's not as straightforward for file storage and access.

And if you can't download programs from the internet or use familiar apps, then it feels like a large part of the online world is closed off.

Huh? How can't Linux not download from the internet? Or use familiar apps to Windows?

I have Thunderbird email and Firefox web browser on Windows 7, 10, And 11. And on my Linux laptop. They all behave the same.
I sync my settings for Firefox between Windows 7, 10, 11, and Linux. Works just fine.

I have LibreOffice installed on all my Windows platforms and my Linux platforms. Works the same on each platform.
I gave up MS office apps years ago when I stopped having to use them for employment.

I have VLC installed on both Windows and Linux to play videos. A very nice player.

On my laptop I have a shared NTFS partition. When I boot Windows it is my D: data drive.
Under Linux is is an accessible filesystem too (yes Linux today can fully mount NTFS filesystems read/write).

The Linux (I use Ubuntu) file manager is basically the same functionality as the File Explorer on Windows.

When I have to drop into CMD to do something on Windows it is basically no different than a Terminal window on Linux.

I have yet to find anything I can't do on Linux that I can do on Windows. Well except use regedit I guess.

By programs I mean - I can't use Cyberlink powerdirector or Capture One Pro and I would miss those. Firefox and VLC are usually installed from a software centre or the terminal, rather than downloaded, and different versions.

The Wine or playonlinux for running Windows programs, I found very iffy.

just go linux if it bothers you that much and i am not saying this in condescending but genuine way if i was at that point i would go linux we use windows bc convenience not bc microsoft is God Emperor of OS's and it likes its consumers

VLC might play most videos but it uses built-in codecs not available to other applications. K-Lite codec pack includes Mexia Player Classic and all the codecs to play AND edit videos to any suitable application you need. MPC-HC is only available for Windows. Also Microsoft Office is familiar to most people. Libre Office needs some time to familiarise and don't have all the features of MS Office. Also I have seen that if you open a document with shapes and colors in Libre Office it messes with them and they look totally different if you open it again in Microsoft Office ruining your document or worse presentation. No thanks, I rather stick with the real thing, not any substitute. You need more examples?

theres is wps office, truly office, only office and softmaker office.. honestly windows is bloatware and microsoft is trash company with this requirements bs.. if linux had compatibility and all games working without having additional steps to get it to work 60% ppl would switch tomorrow

That's the point. There are many substitutes in Linux but I prefer the real thing. I believe many others also prefer the real thing and don't like substitutes. It's like trying to convince us switch from sugar to stevia for coffee and even in sweets. Yes stevia is sweet too but affects the taste of the food and not many want that. Similarly yes, you can use similar applications to do what you want, well almost, but they hardly compare to the original applications they try to imitate.

Super easy to mount the downloaded iso on your hard drive and run setupprep.exe /product server

I don't understand why you're using both LibreOffice and Microsoft Office on the same document. I use LibreOffice exclusively, and have never had a problem with Writer "messing with" anything.
