Would Like Helpful Opinion The The Following Laptops

The one in your link is Core i7 $1,099. Core i7 would be better for video/photoshop work (although core i5 would be ok as well).

The kind of issues I've had on some of the newer thinner laptops: overheating, usbc ports easily damaged, lack of ports. I think one that's built to prevent overheating and looks a solid hard plastic - just seems a lot more long lasting.
I agree 100%.

As for CPU choice, you're completely correct and it's your call. I prefer to buy my laptops used on ebay. That's just me. I like to save on the price.

These Dell Precision workstation laptops are great Photoshop or DaVinci video editing, no problem.

I also use a TECKNET Laptop Cooling Pad, Portable Slim Quiet USB Powered Laptop Notebook Cooler Fits 12" - 17" laptops
The top mesh is metal, the rest is plastic, it's quiet, it's LIGHTWEIGHT, has blue subtle LEDs and my laptop BREATHES because the three fans are quietly running and helping the air flow. When I throw my laptop in my backpack, I include this thing because it's LOW PROFILE and lightweight. EASY and it works.

Let's face it, laptops need to breath even when we're using them sitting upright in bed right? This solves that problem.

I agree with you 100%. As a Dell Precision laptop user, I couldn't agree more.
I have the maximum of 64GB of Ram in my laptop (NOT SOLDERED), a 15" 4K screen (wouldn't dare go smaller -I use Photoshop a lot), 2TB NVMe, 2TB SATA).

It's not one of these 4K UHD+ - Laptop Computers | Dell USA but they sure do look nice.
www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/scr/laptops/appref=4k-uhd-plus-screen-resolution

When I bought mine, it initially had 1TB NVMe and a regular screen. I bought a 4K replacement and swapped it out (so glad). As for deals on laptops, I recommend ebay, but that's me. Much like a new car, the second it drives off the lot it's used and the price goes down. The same is true with laptops.

As for Windows 11 and driver issues, I've had zero issues with either. Super smooth, no problems.
@PCUser thanks for the info and you obviously have a more expensive computer then what i can afford. But your response doesn't help me in regards to my post or question in picking laptop between the two, on is a 15" G15 and the other a 16" inspiron plus

@Deex2 Between those, I'd go with the 16" Inspiron plus with the Nvidia. If it were me, I'd spend the same amount or less and get something like this on ebay (again, I'm into deals and don't mind used like new). The ebay one is basically the same price as the Inspiron 16 and it's got 64GB Ram etc. For your two new options the 16" Inspiron plus.

Or new for less money?

@Deex2 Definitely the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050, 6 GB GDDR6 and larger screen size are important.
I prefer being able to manually upgrade ram. I upgrade everything as I go. Ram, NVMe, Secondary SATA or SSD drives, etc.

It's a lot cheaper if you can do those upgrades as you like and as you're able. Most people want more ram and more drive space, so the NVMe isn't big enough so you clone it to a bigger one, get a faster or larger capacity secondary drive, more ram, etc.

Having the Nvidia is definitely better for higher performance things like Photoshop, video editing, etc.

RE: Warranties . . . Not typically for private sellers no, though some retailers on ebay may offer a warranty of some kind.

On my Dell Workstation PCs, I have not had any issues with them. 2 different laptops, 5 desktop Dell Precision workstations.
I've also ordered non-precision in the past without any real issues. Anything cosmetic was show and stated prior to my ordering.

The build quality of the Dell Precision is better quality, more durable, more robust, and ages better over time.

I know the Percision has better build quality so I've read, but I'm not looking at one of those. And again both the G5 and Inspiron 16 plus have the same Nvidia

The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX easily performs twice as fast as the Core Ultra 165H, though. Just to give only two examples of why I would steer clear of Core Ultra CPUs:
With 2560x1600 screen resolution, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, RTX 4070, Amazon.com
With 1920x1200 screen resolution, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, RTX 4060, Amazon.com
Even the Core i7-13650HX that I have inside my System One (see my specs) which currently sells for $1100 new on amazon.com still beats the Core Ultra 7 165H by about 18% according to PassMark. As for my RAM, this laptop has upgradable DDR5 @4800MHz so, I could always decide to get this: Amazon.com

Ahhhhh, the switch a-rooo 😁, looks wise I don't really care I'm more concerned about the guts, processor, components and stuff which is better and that I'm not real sure about even though I've researched some, hence me asking for guidance on here. Sure I'd like to go with a better build laptop but it's just too pricey and I'm not going to shell out the cash. I do most of my busy work, browsing...on my desktop. So I don't know I guess I'm leaning ever so slightly towards the Inspiron. My current laptop of almost 9 years I believe is a gaming laptop Inspiron i5 7000 series and actually it is my 1st and only laptop that I have owned and it still works but is windows 10

What did you decide in the end? I think you should go with the Inspiron 16 with Nvidia. Originally you were choosing between the Inspiron 14 and 16. Narrowed it down to the 16. It can be mind boggling looking at too many options.

I also want to thank other posters for the tips about used Dell Precision workstations. I wasn't really aware of those and next time I'm looking for a used laptop I will look for one of those. You seem to get a lot of bang for the buck and they are very expensive new.

I'm not suggesting Deex gets a used Dell Precision though :-) Buying second hand can have it's pitfalls and I can understand wanting to have one from new, look after it and get to know it. It should give you many good years like the last one.

@Hazel123 You are so sweet for asking. You know, I haven't pulled the trigger yet as I thought I would. I went down to Best Buy just to get an actual look at the various laptops and feel their keyboards.... that was a good and bad idea, as that just threw a few more options into my already indecisive over thinking mind.:winkt:. Although I still lean toward Dell, those Lenovo's looked nice. I looked at one of the Dell gaming laptops that you referred to as "chunky" I actually liked its look and feel, but there are huge vents on the bottom which appeared to be in-take vents and the model displayed at the store had a bunch of dust chunks stuck up in those vents, sooooo that turned me off those. Regarding the Inspirion 16 Plus laptops according to the Reps at Dell which i find odd, is they say the the I 16 plus laptops the memory can't be upgraded, yet when you click customize it gives you a choice for "onboarded RAM" and what I assume is not on-boarded, so that is confusing. So Hazel... I'm still not sure. I looked at the Percision too, there are some on clearance but even then they are rather pricing and that is before you add on the cost of MSOffice..... So although I won't be using this laptop everyday, as i prefer my desktop, Id like a laptop that could be used as a back up to the desktop as a "work station" just incase my desk top craps out for some reason. So I'm still open to suggestions.

That's always a good idea to go and look and get a feel for things. So that's the G15 ruled out then :-) One Dell Precision 16 model did have onboard ram that wasn't upgradeable, but that was the one that didn't have Nvidia Graphics. It the site shows upgradeable ram then I'm sure it's correct. But it might be things have changed recently. If it is the case that the ram isn't upgradeable on any of them, you might as well get the less expensive one with the Arc graphics. Except it does limit you to 16gb of ram, which, in 5 years time you might regret. So in that case, Glaskutter's advice to get one with 32gb of ram now, was good. Except that will cost a lot more.

I don't know much about Lenovo laptops as I've never had one - some are recommended in reviews. I tend to stick with HP because they're familiar to me and I like the keyboards. I like Asus keyboards as well but their screens mostly have PWM and I avoid that. Most HP's don't have PWM. It's usually the Oled screens that do (I think) and I'm not bothered about an Oled screen. Any screen will do as long as it's not terrible!

Maybe you could call Dell or email them about the specs for the 16 with Nvidia and just check that it does still have upgradeable ram - it does seem to suggest that on the site and ram is available to buy for that machine. So either the sales assistants are incorrect/not up to speed - or they are ahead of the game and know the specs have changed from what is on the site!
