Hasleo Backup Suite

Has anyone a link to Hasleo Backup Suite Beta?
Keep an eye on their forum for "betas/hotfixes" where they post them directly. I don't know of a "beta" section on the main web site or anything though.

Currently 5.2.2.0+(build 250327) "Hasleo_Backup_Suite_Free_250327.exe": from Bug/Error when restoring.

It's still behind in few of features, Automatic backups scheduling, merging of backups (slow) and automatic updates. I'm using only manual mode in Windows insider.

Hasleo Backup Suite is becoming a Macrium Reflect killer.

There are other Hasleo Backup Suite threads that I read on some other forums, and they're very active while the Reflect threads have gone quiet.
Well as MR is a mature product, there is not a lot to discuss. One could counter argue that the quietness of the threads is a good sign i.e. product is reliable.

Alao with the advent of VX, all leasees have direct access to MR support, with a proper support mechanism i.e. cases are logged and tracked with user.

No matter what one says, Hasleo does not (yet) have a proper support mechanism i.e the only reporting mechanism is to a forum but individual cases are not logged and tracked.

I imagine this would change when Hasleo introduces a premium version which they (allegedly) intend to do so.

I accept Hasleo is possibly the most featured tool in the free market.

Saying Hasleo is an MR killer is rather an exaggeration, as MR's focus is clearly on the much more financially lucrative corporate market and Hasleo has to go a long way before it can be said to truly compete with MR.

Also Hasleo is being rapidly developed, and one has to accept it potentially has bugs that are still lurking around. In time the product will settle of course but (imo) it is not quite there yet. Of course, this is personal opinion and other persons may have a different opinion.

On a personal note, MR has never let me down, and an annual lease of £18 pa (50% off deal by trading in one V8 licence) is well worth it. I still have 4 V8 and 4 V7 licences as well. I would only move to Hasleo when these licences failed to work but given that V7 licences still work fine, I see that date quite a long way in the future.

Having said all that, it is reassuring that there is a good alternative and by the time I might consider it, it would be a mature product as well.

Another way to look at it is people can’t afford Macrium. Times are tough.
Take Windows for instance, it’s free. There will always be questions asked in this forum because there are always new users or users who have questions about certain processes.

If you’re not getting new users and all the current users already know how to use the program, where is the activity going to come from?
If your volume of new users declines, so will activity.

Forum activity doesn’t stem from bugs or feature request alone, it also comes from questions of how to use a program.

MR's worst fault is it's subscription payment model. I and I believe most in the world have no way of paying for it directly or it could cost way more to pay for it thru other channels. Even this v8.0 one time license was bought for me by a friend in Windows 10 forums. If they were not so greedy, they could have allowed free switch to X version and/or have a free but limited edition. To stick with my problem. I have no (nor ever had not even in Canada) credit card, even if I had it, my money is in Serbian Dinar and Canadian Dollars (pension) but even if I had it, to pay in USD, bank would do at least 2-3 conversions which would cost a lot because of cost of conversions. So, even in best case, it would be too expensive specially when other options like Hasleo exist.

Actually the FREE Gparted has a HUGE following -- you don't have to know ANYTHING about Linux to use the bootable version.

The GUI is almost identical to all the standard Windows partition managers (free or otherwise) and it can copy / resize partitions using a huge number of different file systems including Windows NTFS partitions. There is a command line (console) for those who need it - and being based on Debian - incredibly stable with a huge following and actively maintained - it's 100% reliable. I've used it for years in re-sizing, copying and manipulating Windows partitions.

All a Windows user has to do is after booting it just select the keyboard, hit enter and the GUI appears. Then it's 99.9% identical to typical Windows partition managers.

Just download the ISO and then use rufus or whatever to make a bootable USB stick - or even run the thing as a VM.

Note for DATA as opposed to Disk images etc then one does need another backup system -- but for manipulating partitions etc I don't think feature wise you can beat GPARTED. And it can make a good job of repairing broken partitions too.

For data backup though I'd need to use something that is regularly maintained by a decent team. With the best will in the world Hasleo doesn't possibly have the time or resources - if 100,000's more people switch to his product and overload the site with problems.

That's why even for Windows for DATA backup (not disk imaging) I'd use GRSYNC on a Linux system. With Red Hat (now owned by IBM) maintaining Fedora etc there's no danger of lack of product support / development. Macrium X is fine but I HATE subscription models so not buying it. !!!

@CountMike

Try Gparted - also if you want to try GRSYNC install Fedora on HYPER-V - install any version with a GUI - KDE is probably "The most Windows like". Then simply after boot as root run dnf install grsync. You can even try a "Live version" which boots directly from a USB drive so your HDD's aren't touched - everything is done in memory but it's a good test.

cheers

I have Mint on couple of USBs loaded with utilities but never tried any backups from it. It's much easier and faster from Windows directly, it's on 24/7

The best thing about Linux is that it is like Windows in its GUI. I keep trying to like Unix and all its distributions and they certainly install well and seem to have drivers for every imaginable hardware, but they do not have the bradth of free software that Window's ecosytem offers. I had a dual boot Ubuntu/Windows set up and used Grub to dual boot. I loved the way it could be set up to always reboot into the last used OS. But I never felt Unix was better than Windows.

You don't get it do you - Macrium Reflects business model is the corporate model.

I bet they make peanuts out of the domestic market.

Hasleo is not killing Macrium Reflect as it does compete in the same league.

I am just a pensioner but £18 per year for me is just the cost of three/four pints of beer.

I doubt Paramount really care about the loss of people going to Hasleo etc, but I bet most of these would not pay even for a one off fee.

I asked Paramount once about percentage of Home/Free ratio, and they indicated only 20% paid for it even before the subscription. Based on discussions over the years with forum members, I reckon that ratio was about right.

Frankly, it really does not matter which tool one uses SO LONG as it is DEMONSTRABLY reliable.

So, I stick by my undeniable fact that FOR ME MR has never let me down. If Hasleo users can say the same, fine.

It's all rather bs really arguing over which tool is the best (defining best depends on a users needs anyway).

What is far more important is the number of domestic users who never back anything up. Based on my friends/relatives etc, I would be surprised if more than 10-20% of the domestic public would know what a backup was if they tripped over one.

The issue of software subscriptions is a much bigger subject.

I only pay two - MS Office 365 and Macrium Reflect. Those are my two most important tools.

I will not pay for MS Store apps that ask for say £2.99 per month say. Most of them have limited functionality/quality.

I did not mind paying a one off fee now and them to avoid ads or get a few extra features.

In the end, a user has to decide what is important to them.

Well, I do get it. I was born during a night but it wasn't last night, as saying goes. 🍸
I was just saying in which position I and many, many others are. If MR doesn't want our money, their loss. Giving away some crippled version wouldn't cost them any money and would be free advertising.
I'll just milk this license as long as I can or it suits me. I tried and tested Hasleo and it works albeit without some amenities of MR, it's fine for a free solution, backs up and restores in acceptable way.

My pushback back against the MR X version is more than it being a subscription model -- it is focused on the price. I have a 4-pack MR 8 set of that I used for three years and for which I paid $100 USD. That works out to a little over $8 per system per year. The subscription price, last time I looked, was $50 per system per year. That's a 6-fold increase in price!! While I do make a little more now than I did three years ago, it is certainly not SIX-TIMES the amount!

So, to mee, this is just plain greed. When they could have made money be charging a little more (say $10 per license per year), they went with five times that. At $10 dollars, although I'm not a fan of the subscription model, I would have paid it. But, not the $50 USD.

I even tried a test of v10 Home free trial, and although it ran faster than MR Home 8.1, if was a very small improvement and the image file was only slightly smaller.

What surprised me was that running Hasle 5.2.2.1 was faster than MR X and the image file was even smaller.

So, if they decide to disable 8.1 down the road, I will very likely switch over to Hasleo -- unless they then switch to the same pricing model.

I don't find the new features of Reflect X to be very compelling. Regardless of the pricing model, the new features for a major upgrade are very underwhelming. It smells like a money grab to me. Maybe they're having financial difficulties. 💲

That's exactly what it is, not dissimilar to most other products. Give it some small improvement which could have been easily done long time ago, give it new name and charge more for "new and improved".

So no different to any other business these days.

I doubt it is financial difficulties as the owner effectively sold the company and is no longer in charge.

New owner's are simply changing company focus.

No point in whinging about it - done deal. Take it or leave it - end of story.
