F12 only brings up this boot manager. There's only one option unless I have a USB drive connected.

But my laptop will now boot into MR!

Yes I am familiar with that option.. but I will add it back with an RE wim. In fact I am currently updating all my bootable toys.

Updated my Macrium Reflect Rescue Drive yesterday, since i have Secure boot on, made sure to setup for Windows PE option,

Have not tested to see if it boots though as yet, though Windows File Explorer doesn't see it when its done creating for some reason, don't know why really, followed all the directions to get the Proper PE version with the secure boot fixes.

Updated Immediately yesterday when i saw the update notice on Desktop and little later on Laptop machine, 3rd household system gonna get done in a moment here

Well, that was a minor disaster. Tried the update on system 2, it completed and appeared to work OK. Tried to create new Rescue Disk. Three tries, with formats between: "A PE file has failed to copy. Disk may not work ..." Creation process aborted. Fortunately the program still worked well enough so that I could copy back yesterday's MR 7675 from last night's image. Only two files are involved in making that possible. All's well in 7675 now.

And I have been trying all day to create a rescue media on a USB HDD that will boot on a 32-bit Win 10 computer.

I haven't updated my rescue media (flash drive) in quite a while. It runs 8.1.7401 but still sees and can verify my images so reasonably sure it could restore if necessary. So whenever MR is updated I just test boot to my rescue media rather than create a new one.

Now there's an idea I hadn't actually thought of: Update MR, but then test USB keys from earlier versions to make sure they work as well as they always did. Saves a lot of "Create New ...) time. Tx, @fixer.

If MS can mess with the backups and change something, Macrium will effect the necessary change. Why do you assume that you can still restore by booting into an out of date rescue media?

If the rescue media is able to validate an image created with a later version then provided the restore function hasn't been changed it seems highly probable, though not entirely certain I accept. Of course I always have the PE alternative available too and the update should have looked after that if necessary.

Read the changelogs after an update , nothing changed in the boot-media (?) , then you should safely keep using your previous version !
I never ran into troubles with this practise............. :wink:

I still have one that's a v7.2 rescue usb. That can still restore any image, even those made by v8.1.
There have been no changes to the format of the .mrimg file, so almost anything will do :wink:

The very old macrium v2 or whatever it is that I still have somewhere could probably handle the images made by v8.1, although iirc it only supported mbr.

I havent seen an .mrimg for quite a while, a year or two perhaps. From what I think I can remember from many years ago it looks like the same xml based format image file they have been using all along.

There was a gui thing that could attempt to copy out all files from a .mrimg. I think was for use if the image had minor damage and couldn't be restored/mounted. Then this little gui would attempt to copy out whatever files werent damaged using robocopy.

I might have that gui thing somewhere, but I dont know what to search for because I cant remember what it was called.

I use MR Free version 8.0.7279 but I have been monitoring Paramount pricing and this thread with a view to paying for One-Time Purchase licences in order to support Paramount.

This thread seems filled with MR issues/problems so, apart from £58 per licence being too much (IMO) I also do not want to pay for something with bugs. I know that forums are places to ask questions and to get help with fixes but I am struck by the number of bugs and the need for user tweaking to fix them. Are Paramount going through a rough time keeping up with Windows 11 updates or am I mis-reading this thread?

As things stand I'll continue with the free version.

I just updated to 7762, not an initial update, and the issue of not automatically connecting to the WiFi network from the recovery environment or rescue USB is still there. Not a show stopper but inconvenient.
