Well, I'm up late tonight playing the plumber because one cannot be had at this hour. *Tag* I'm it. I may as well do chat boards. lol The original chocolate and cream looks great in a bubblegum pink case.

But let's face it: It gets pretty hard to make ye olde Noctua cooler colours match well with the rest of the components in this era of show and tell. I think Noctua made a good move with Chromax. Myself, I build so many PCs without a side view window it hardly matters. Even this old ThermalTake case doesn't really give me much of a side view. My girls however, have different tastes. We have two pink PCs now (go figure) with glass panels and teeth, and I have to be very nice to them and be very careful what I feed them. (The pink PCs — not the girls.)

So yeah, to each their own. I hate to admit it, but the pink is starting to grow on me... kinda like fungus. As for myself, I feel comfortable with the basic black and blue. Okay, and maybe just a weensie-teensie splash of red. Oh yeah, and those tiny green pilot LEDs on the controller CARD... OMGG!! What have I done?? I've gone RGB.

No worries. I wear my sunglasses at night (when I can find them). Hey, remember those old xenon strobe lights?? Someone should build a PC running a bunch of those behind coloured sheets of glass. Just turn on the PC and you're done... You'll never make it to the keyboard, much less your monitor. The ultimate in RGB.

YUP. I had to opt for the Noctua NH-U12DX i4 premium Xeon cooler at the time because of a RAM and heat pipe clearance issue with my NHD-15. Not at all Noctua's fault. In fact I read posts where people could install the NHD-15 on other X99 platforms but not on the ASUS model I owned. My temps aren't nearly as good as yours with my i7 6900K but then I'm running 16 cores over 128GB of RAM and at least 24 hard drives so it stands to reason. (I probably need to change the paste on it too.) I couldn't agree with you more when you state that the NHD-15 is a monster. It's a beast compared to the NH-U12 units, but it's a nice beast. And if you take good care of it and treat it well, and call it George, it could last for decades.

I did a little “plumbing” yesterday as well, stinking toilets!

I have one of those original Noctua coolers (NH D-14) that had the cream and chocolate fans; didn’t mind the colors too much as for some reason it reminded me of a photo of an old Rolls-Royce so I kind of thought the colors classy. But I did end up replacing the fans with black Chromax to bring the color scheme in line with the black case. I also installed Chromax heatsink covers and ended up leaving them installed even though I really liked the looks of the heatsinks being chrome on that cooler. It is now a little neither here nor there as the case that system is now in does not have any glass sides.

I never purposely set out to have any RGB in my machines but the Asus Z 590 motherboards in the other two machines light a little, and then the graphics cards lights a lot as well and those two systems do have a glass side. So yeah, I too can say, what have I done!

I was just thinking that I have 2 Corsair 120mm non-RGB fans in black. I actually have 8 but that's not going to fly. I want to install them at the top of the case. So my question to you all is... Should the fans be intake or Exhaust? The 3 in the front are intake and the 1 at the back is Exhaust. Negative or positive air pressure in the case? that is the question. I can ask google but I wanted to pick your brains.

I was just digging through my many boxes of tech and found some old RGB Gigabyte 120mm fans but there white. That would take away from my black theme. What do you think? The tethers are short but I can add extensions.

This is a really dumb question and I should know better to even post it. Me being a lazy sod am not looking forward to reinstalling everything all over again. So the Question... Is it possible to move an AMD basted SSD into an Intel basted PC? I'm sweating just thinking about this. Has anyone "Successfully Done This"?? The tech in me is saying "You Dumb Ass do a clean install" The lazy sod in me says "Ignore him just move it over it'll be just fine" I have an inner conflict going on.

Listen to the tech in you. Even if you do get that older OS to post you will likely encounter numerous BSOD and other conflict issues. Of course, you could be like me and just "experiment", but as a rule I recommend a complete fresh install on a brand new build. Why would you want a bunch of useless instruction sets and bloat in a nice, new build? Why risk struggling through multiple driver conflicts etc. Just to avoid a clean installation? Don't be lazy. (Now I hear my mom talking in my head.) Seriously, bro. Even if the former build was an Intel platform you're still looking at different chip sets and drivers that don't apply. This will be a recipe for disaster, or at least an accident just waiting to happen IMO. Please don't ask me how I know this.

I remember the days when I had to do Windows installations on dial up and that was no fun at all. These days, with fast internet, SSDs, NVMe, and mega bandwidth I gotta say we are so spoiled. You can get a full install (with updates) done inside an hour.

*side note* - Traditionally, the fans on the front of the case are intake. Some cases will allow for an intake on the side panel. The rear of the case is for exhaust and, because hot air rises, the top of the PC case is also used for exhaust on air cooled builds. You are running what we used to call a "shot gun" configuration with your NHD-15. This push/pull approach has been proven to be very effective. It is also advisable however that when you use this configuration that your rear exhaust fan spins at least 200 RPM faster than the other two fans to ensure effective draw and venting of warmer air. This is only advice, but it has worked well for me over the years building air cooled units.

Lol, I never said they shouldn't be allowed. Just stated that it wasn't my thing, and even acknowledged that others liked it.

My new case has a window....first one I have ever had. It wasn't something on my "want" list, but to get the other items on my "want" list i had to get a window.

My pc is tucked behind some monitos. So even with a window. I cannot see it.

I run 2 intake 140s and 1 exhaust 140 in my case. My case supports 9 fan, but I haven't needed any more than the 3 it came with.

IMO Cases like that should be outlawed for the following reasons: 1) everything's red. PC looks like it's ready to burst into flames at any moment. 2) No bays in the front. I happen to like my front bays. I happen to like using my Blue Ray player and watching my special edition Matrix movie series on blue ray in 4K res. I happen to like the accessibility and convenience of having a handy card reader that I don't have to hunt for because it's portable and one of the family snagged it on me again. I run diagnostics. Hot swapable bays are not an option. I like using RAID. I like my options. Man, I'd be running a floppy on my Workstation if I had room for one. But, as the saying goes, to each their own. I had to build a PC for my other daughter that is even redder than this one. In fact, it has so much red light in it that anything you put in it turns red. Her PC makes this one look like a misdemeanour. I don't know how she can stand it.

Yes I have. And I have come to my senses. I'm pulling all my install software from multiple drives into a single drive for ease of access for the new install. My Thunderbird e-mail is my life line. I can copy the Appdata profile and save it and install the default app and then overwrite it. It holds all your sensitive info and I should be able to access my email from that point. It's a lot of work but it is well worth the effort. O! Buy the way.. It's NH-D15 NOT NHD-15. Don't be a Newbie.

Yeah, but you've been harping on this since our Windows 10 (maybe even Windows 7) days. Every single time you get a chance to poo-poo on RGB lighting and (well it used to be) windowed cases, you do so.

Meh, at my age being called a Newbie is a compliment so I thanks ye kindly for that. (And for the encouragement.) Pardon my grimiore. You likely already know that you can plug that old drive into your new system and drag any precious content from the old drive onto your new drive via disk management. Easy Peasy. Best way to snag all your personal files directly and leave all the stuff you don't want behind. If you do it right you'll even be able to pop the old drive back into the older PC and it'll still boot up. (Just sayin'.)

At my age! I have no idea how old you are but I'm 65. More years behind than there are in the for. Sorry but I have all my data and apps and Imaging in its place. This is not my first rodeo. I do find all your input very valuable so keep it coming. I'm not a Newbie. Sorry that was a pun. I keep saying Sorry... Probably because I'm Canadian. We are known for this.
