and, the hotkey setting within ShareX is: Capture Region = PrtScn
yet, without focus on any elements, you hit PrtScn but don't see any of this stuff... ???

Yes, with Terminal (admin) over webpage, but if it's set to default, CTRL + PrSc it works ok.

Thanks for your help @Edwin, much appreciated, but it seems something in my system affects the hot key. Will stick with 'volume mute key' as it works and I've no real need for it.

When I started the thread and gave it this name, I meant for it to be a place to gather information and knowledge about ShareX. Hopefully it will live on and not belong just to me.

This is just for info:
If you want to emulate WinKey+PrtScn with ShareX, (because you don't want to go to the Screenshots folder every time to fetch it , (I have my captures land immediately onto my Desktop))..., simply press PrtScn+Enter.
(When you press PrtScn, first make sure you can see the dotted lines around the entire edges of all your screens.)
(You do this because you cannot drag to capture an offset display array.)

Found the culprit. I use PicPick for scrolling Window and sometimes use the editor. Never have it starting with Windows as I use ShareX. Thought that was enough for not loading the Hotkeys but apparently not. Disabled the Capture Active Window which was ALT + Print Screen now ShareX works as should.

K..., forget all that stuff about png_auto_file I explained before! It's not necessary in Windows 11!
This is for png files, but, you do the same for jpeg files, and possibly others.

In the Registry, navigate to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell
right click on shell, choose New>Key and name it Open
right click on Open, choose New>Key and name it command
... the picture below shows the values for Open and command...

Now, when you right click an png image file and choose Properties/Opens with:/Change, you will see ShareX Image Viewer as a choice...

The Viewer renders full screen with click anywhere to dismiss.
ShareX Image Viewer renders very nicely!

I've been using Sharex for a while now and am getting used to the menu system and how it works. At first it was a bit confusing to see the menu come up with all those options. After a lot of experimentation, I rather like it now.

I notice the popularity of Snagit. For a new Sharex user, do you see any need to add Snagit?

To be honest, I rarely use Snagit anymore..., perhaps on occasion for a couple of things. I think I'm gonna let my version run out.
ShareX is my go to.
I use Greenshot on the side for a few quick things.
I also have Screenpresso Portable because their annotating elements are gorgeous!

@Wynona I had the same thing happen when I installed ShareX. That means that you have a HotKey conflict.

If you choose ShareX Menu Item "Hotkey Settings", you will see that one of the options in the dialog box has a red dot in the right-hand column.

You have to either change the Windows setting for that HotKey or change the ShareX setting for that HotKey. Looking at your error message, your red dot will be on the "Print Screen" HotKey setting. It's a simple fix.
