Office purchases become outdated after 3 years on average plus you can only install on 1 pc, no 1 TB onedrive etc.

You have to look at the whole package.

OK, so WU would not just check RedReason, it would check all of them before saying that a Version update was available.
[I know the update would fail. I was just wondering about whether or not it would list the update & try it.]

Just for info - My Intel Atom x5-Z8350 [from 2018] has SSE4.2 and therefore, as I understand it, PopCnt.

Yes, Windows Update is not offering upgrades to the next version if unsupported computer is detected. That is we will be offered all other updates for 23H2 but not the upgrade to 24H2. Our CPU has SSE4.2 and supports PopCnt but is not 8th generation Intel or higher, let alone TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and UEFI mode. So we still need to manually download the ISO and bypass compatibility check to upgrade to 24H2.

Not sure where you live -- but here we have a great police force that works and Iceland is a really low crime country so I certainly wouldn't need the £8.00 or around €11.00 for a service that police should be supplying anyway. I hear that in parts of London Policing is so bad it's actually now called the Police Farce -- although it's still 9 months away from Panto season.

Strangely enough the NYPD who used to be bad are quite "Tourist and public friendly" these days and seem to get on with the job -- got no idea of who the mayor is but NYC seems to be a whole lot safer -- even the subway is useable at night without thinking you are taking your own life in your hands. !! So things can be done even in what seems impossible scenarios.

My 3rd generation Intel Core-i7 3770 also has the PopCnt instruction and I should have no issues upgrading to 24H2 (after I bypass compatibility check of course). But I rather wait for the standard release in October or November. I don't want to install an Insider's version.

Wrong idea, it's not only an Insider issue. It works for the RTM/Released version. Your i7-3770 is a 3rd Generation, my i7-4700 is a 4th Gen. as is my i5-4200 and both working fine. The minimum for meeting System Requirements is an 8th Gen. CPU. There's a separate list for AMD CPUs.

Yes, I know minimum official hardware requirements for Windows 11 is 8th generation Intel Core CPU or 2nd generation AMD Ryzen CPU, thanks. That's why I need to bypass compatibility check in order to upgrade. The only requirement which we cannot yet bypass is instruction PopCnt. Mine and yours have this, so it is only a matter of bypassing the general hardware requirements to upgrade to 24H2.

My Dell Optiplex is my workhorse that replaced my old home built desktop that had the power supply bow up and taking the graphics card and motherboard with it. It makes all my Rufus sticks now - which work.in everything. The same Dell Optiplex now runs 11 Pro - up from Pro for Workstations.

Your system in the sig, reminds me of a setup I had in the late-2010s! I had an Alienware with what looks like an early Asus P6T Deluxe, with a Core i7 Extreme 965 and a liquid cooler! Because I thought the motherboard was borked in summer, 2019, even when it booted fine and can run stuff without a crash or an error. I changed it to an Asus P6T6 WS Revolution from eBay and regretted it at first! Because I was getting RAM-related BSOD errors from Windows 7 with the same RAM that the P6T Deluxe worked stably with. Turned out to just be a legacy-BIOS bug with video cards later than Radeon R9 series, I suspect. Thus, I also suspect video cards later than GeForce GTX 980 series. The problem that had me on a wild goose chase, was the Radeon RX 580 than I just bought, even when not faulty or damaged! Made me regret taking out the GeForce GTX 970, which I got used on May 29, 2019. But it looks a lot like I solved the RAM-related instability by just using a triple-channel kit that I got in 2020. By that time, I already had my first Ryzen motherboard and RAM, with the second processor that I got for it in June, 2020, the Ryzen 7 3700X, which I see a ton of in the internet community.

Microsoft blocks some PCs from Windows 11 24H2 — CPU must support SSE4.2 or the OS will not boot

This is the second system requirement added to Windows 11 since it first came out.

Bob Pony re-affirms that SSE4.2 specifically is required, this means that any older CPUs such as AMD's Barcelona chips that only go up to SSE4a won't work (through Windows 11 modding).

Thanks for this. Having an old AMD PC with SSE4a and the ISO for 24H2 26100.1 to hand, I can confirm that SSE4.2 is now a specific requirement.
