Windows 12 ! Already....

If Pluton chip will be mandatory for Windows 12 I'll be buying a new laptop in 2025, otherwise in 2026 or 2027

I thought these were version 4.xxx If I remember correctly, the System Properties in Windows 95/98 mention version 4.xxx The original Windows 98 (aka Gold version) build ends in 1998 and the Windows 98 SE (aka Second Edition) build number ends in 2222. Both start with 4.xxx

what about the entire forum/site dedicated to entirely just windows 12? Believe it or not..it does exist already. I think that should be the place to discuss windows 12, Just like if you discuss windows 10 you get told to go over to tenforums. Just makes sense.

Yes, you're right I was confused with the build number. e.g Windows 95 build 950.

It was written by little grey guys from Andromeda. Actually, by a little known software company in New Zealand, around 1997. I used that original version, before Symantec got their grubbies on it. It was purely DOS and worked only on FAT-32 formatted disks. *

* Sometime after Symantec bought it, they modified it to work with NTFS drives.
Their last DOS based version, 11.5x is the one I still use today. Booting in DOS totally bypasses Windows and all the problems that can entail.

Ghost was bought by Symantec around 1998, and was theirs till they finally abandoned it, after screwing it up like everything else they touched. I'll never understand why they stuck the Norton name on it. Trying to give it legitimacy, I guess, because Symantec was getting such a bad rep.

Kaspersky? Controlled by the Russian mafia. No thank you! I'd rather have a virus!

Ich wohnen im Kanada. Gib mir meine Kaspersky! Either Symantec owned Norton or Norton owned Symantec. I forgot which way that one went but I do know that I used Ghost back in those days and it came directly from Norton. It was pretty handy even back in 2001. So Norton made that version. Yes, even then it was purely DOS. It was excellent for repairing PCs that lost their boot strap and cleaning out corrupt files too. I can't recall if it worked with SATA though. I recall that I had to boot it from floppy.

I'm sorry you think Kaspersky is controlled by Russian mafia. Frankly I think that's a pile of B.S. but then again, I don't buy everything that pours out of mainstream media. If you're really concerned about Russian mafia you better delete all your Gen 2 stuff while you're at it. I suppose it can't be any worse than the TPM Consortium Syndicate. Actually, it's better. At least I have a choice with Kaspersky regardless of what OS I choose to use.
Governments in North America had to allow Kaspsersky back because all those false allegations were disproven. Even Microsnot had to suck it up and allow Kaspersky on their operating systems by LAW.

IMO Kaspersky is one of the safest security systems money can get you these days. Perhaps that is why the TPM Syndicate hates it so much.We will just have to agree to disagree. I make no apology on the part of Kaspersky. They have served me wonderfully.

I'd say that anyone younger than 60 years of age might benefit from a new laptop in 2027 but if you're older than that you're on borrowed time anyway. Of course, if you have pesos to burn that's your prerogative. I've got 22 PCs going here and not a whole pile of clams in the oven. In fact, my government is pushing on me to apply for retirement. I don't think I can dodge them much longer.

I have a feeling I'll just become one of those angry old men who opted for Linux because Microshaft made such a terrrible mess of things. If I can't put Win 12 on my old hardware in good conscience I certainly won't. If I have to buy a TPM 3 or 4 plug (considering how TPM 2 is already failing) it isn't gonna happen. Who knows? Perhaps by 2027 they'll have a Zircon chip out and we can all be Rhinestone Cowboyz. :shawn:

I think I applied to join that forum but was never approved. So be it. I'll just keep on chatting about it here until it actually becomes "a thing". For all we know Microsoft might skip right over that name and jump to some totally insane name. I like Windows Zircon but I suppose Pluto works in a pinch.

Yeah, that's partly why I asked you about the make and model. I wanted to check the pin out for that. I appreciate the pictures. Wow, hey? Sidecar exploit. I guess we all knew it was coming. Hopefully AMD will deal with it at the physical hardware level instead of stooping to bandage "fixes" like Intel did. Alas, that will mean new hardware will be required, but Intel kept on cranking out CPUs with the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerability for years after they discovered it. I thought that was rather irresponsible of them and it was the leading factor in my decision to start running with AMD.

Yeah - which is why I went to AMD after being an Intel builder for a long, long time.

The fixes for the current nosebleed , er, ahem, ZenBleed, is going to be upgraded AGES for the UEFI firmware. I suspect that as long as vulnerabilities are found that can simply be fixed with AGESA or other microcode for the CPUs they will, as well, continue to follow the same manufacturing processes for their CPUs as well. It will take time for them to entirely redesign the architecture to bhave those fixes built in to the hardware.

I don't fully agree with that. Talking about Windows 12 on the ElevenForum gives it more exposure to other users. If it hasn't changed the TwelveForum is invite only. I do think this thread should have been posted in the Chillout Room .

I agree with @spapakons. MS was being sneaky and released Windows 9 but called it Windows 8.1.

IMHO Ghost was a great program before it was sold to Symantic. That's when I dropped it and never looked back.

I'm almost 68 and I'm planning on buying a new desktop. I was thinking about doing it next year but I decided to hold off until the next version of Windows is released. If the next version is too restrictive I will stay with Windows 11 for as long as I can. I don't consider myself on borrowed time. I just look at it as being past the mid point of my life.
