Solved Windows not recognising SSD

Absolutely! MiniTool Partition Wizard rocks! I used it so much I finally caved and bought the lifetime license. No regrets. It has served me well for over a decade. Makes Windows Disk Management look like a nursery school.

yup. If you want to format it you make it a new simple volume.

NOTE:

In Disk Management you can right click on a disk in TWO locations.
1. On the far left, which will show you options for the DISK itself.
2. A bit to the right, which will show you options for the partitions or unallocated space that's ON the disk.

Minitool Partition Wizard, works the same way. :-)

In your post #18, I think you were right clicking on the far left.
In that location the drop down will NOT show the Create Volume or Format options.

Normally, one need not resort to MiniTool to simply format a drive in Windows but MiniTool is a very good program to get familiarized with. It does so much more than merely format and partition drives.

What file system do I use? From what I've read, I believe I should format the SSD in NTFS.

Below is a screenshot from the MiniTool Partition Wizard.

I see what you mean. Right now I don't understand most of what it says. But that's okay. It gives me to focus on learning.

Great news! My external SSD drive has been initialised and formatted. NTFS.

Now that I have that done, I need to backup my primary SSD so I can do incrimental backups.

NO. Don't make backups using Minitool.
Minitool is just for doing Disk Management stuff.

Use one of these...

What program are you using to make your backups?

I tried to use the Create Backup option in MinTool Partition Wizard. It downloaded the option that required me to pay monthly fees for one of the subscriptions. I uninstalled that. Then I went to the MiniTool website and it listed a free Shadowmaker option. I downloaded that. But before I do anything with that, is it a good option to use or should I try another program?
