@OAT Thank you, my friend. That did 'er. Funny, I just hardly ever think of (or think of using) the msconfig panels anymore. They seem like ancient history.
In this case, very valuable ancient history. Done, tested, and successful.

I'm still on .7675
I never update MR till I watch the results of the updates for a week or two.
Even then I'll skip a bunch of MR updates.

The only reason I updated to .7675 was because of the Windows Revocations.

It's a BCD entry and the msconfig-method deletes just the bootloader entry. In the BCD you could check if the device-path is correct and the ramdiskoptions are correct. Using the USB, just replace the bootmgr.efi and use the old one.

We're all assuming that tip is based on life experience. Fortunately, a trip to the back yard and a can of compressed air will correct the balsa blunder every time.

I created a Macrium 8.1.7762 rescue ISO and tested restoring one of my Windows installations using Ventoy (works fine) , Note I usually only make a Full backup then Restore and don't use any Network or File/Folder options.

@Wisewiz why would you want to remove the boot choice? It's by far the easiest way to restore an image of your boot drive - no pen drive or DVD required to restore a previous version of your OS drive.

I have updated to v8.1.7762, rebuilt the rescue media .wim, the boot menu, and updated the PC's existing rescue media usb. Everything still works normally. Booting from the rescue usb can still go through the steps to do a restore.

With it, there's an extra click or a delay of five more seconds when I boot or restart. My preferred boot eliminates any logins, preliminary screens, pauses, PINs, and clicks. Just a brief user-picture screen, and then straight to the desktop.
With my MR image restores, I can choose which day's image, and select parts of the image to restore/not restore, and Rapid Delta works a treat. Quick like a bunny.

On latest MR build, created boot entry and USB.

They both booted fine albeit my perception is it was a bt slower perhaps.

@Bree Thanks for the report on your successes. I still think I'll wait a week or two before I repeat the update-rebuild-create new rescue process that failed for me earlier, and see whether any dust settles.
(And @Ghot isn't sanding any balsa here, so the dust will, surely, settle.)

I don't do scheduled backups, and when I do a manual image it's to a local usb drive. But I have just tested v8.1.7762 by starting a manual backup to a network location. Seems to be working....

I can create file backups over the network with 7762, but that isn't the issue. If you click on a backup file in Explorer it normally allocates a drive letter which then enables you to explore the backup. This worked fine before 7762, but doesn't after, not on either of my systems anyway.

Macrium Support have sent me a new download link which I'm now testing. I'll let you know if it fixes it.

I don't use Win PE for my recovery media, I use the Win RE option. That said, the update, including the recovery media, seems to be working fine for me.

EDIT: Have not tried a network backup / restore.

Good! New 7762 download has worked fine in Win 11. Hopefully will also be ok in Win 10.

Yep, fine in Win 10 too. Now on 7762 on both systems, everything working. Macrium Support so helpful!
