Building one's own PC has kind of gone the way of Ham Radio Operators building their own rigs. It's just not done so much anymore.
We who like to design and build things, have fallen into disrespect. Most PC operators today are little more than Appliance Operators.
That doesn't make them bad folks, just not technically inclined.
One of my sidelines, years ago, was designing and building AC to DC power supplies. I designed a voltage and current regulated/adjustable PSU for all the work benches in our division, when I worked in the Caterpillar Research Labs. They were designed to be Idiot Proof, so it's possible that they may still be in use today. That was 43 years ago. I still have one I built for myself back about then, that I still use on my work bench today.
I still have one "Pac Man" case that I'd like to turn into a working PC. That is, after I get done repainting it. White plastic darkens with age.
For internal parts, the ones I don't already have, I'll turn to eBay. I can pick up a Gigabyte motherboard, AMD CPU and some ram, for under $100.
Cheers Mates!
