Windows 11 24H2

Thmx Jimbo but not going to waste more time on downloading by UUP, it took some 4 hours to finish to ISO. Going to wait until it's offered thru WU. and/or one piece ISO. Looks like I got OEM version, maybe that was the problem.
Good heavens.

I find an ISO build from UUPDump to be slow - maybe a half hour. 4 hours would be intolerable.

Makes sense for you to avoid it.

Good afternoon, all. I have the option turned on to get the latest Windows updates as soon as they are available. I saw yesterday here that Version 24H2 had started rolling out yesterday, but I was astonished to see it listed when I conducted my daily "Check For Windows Updates" routine on my desktop this morning.

This is a major Version update. I have seen it referred to as a "OS swap." You can check my Profile if you wish (System 1). I have a very capable DELL XPS 8930 SE desktop computer that I configured for High-Definition video editing when I purchased it back in October 2019.

From start to finish, the version update took 90 minutes. It was agonizingly slow and often appeared to hang during the "Installing" and "Working On Updates" stages of the update. Of more concern to me was my monitor lost signal at between 93 to 95 percent of the "Installing" stage. I waited five minutes, but there was still no display, so I gently nudged my mouse, and the video returned to displaying the Windows Update screen showing "Installing 97%."

I then downloaded the 24H2 preview cumulative update, rebooted a few times, and ran a System File Checker (SFC) scan that showed it had found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. A "DISM ... /scanhealth" scan came back with the welcome news that no component store corruption was found. I don't tweak my computers, so I have no idea what will happen with those who use various tweaks to modify Windows 11 to their preferences.

The update, like all Windows major version updates knocked out my Winaero Windows 7 Games for Windows 8, 10, and 11, but that was restored easily by reinstalling. It also knocked one of my HD Sentinel Pro drive temperature task bar pins (my boot NVMe SDD). That too was easily fixed. I have three internal drives: the boot drive and two HDDs. The version update also turned back on the Killer services that often throttle Internet speeds, so I simply disabled those four services again.

Then I ran a Disk Cleanup (Windows) to safely remove the old Version 23H2, created a Restore Point, and I am now back in business it seems. I will image the entire boot drive on Friday, my usual day for updating, imaging, and scanning both of my computers.

I don't know what your experience will be, but I thought I would share mine so that you might have some idea of what to expect. This is a MAJOR update. PATIENCE is a virtue for sure, especially with this Windows update. Just let it do its thing. May you be as fortunate as I was. I will look for that Windows Version 24H2 update for my laptop (System 2) on Friday when I fire it up weekly to update, backup, and scan it.

Good luck to all, and have a great day.

Regards,
Phil

I'm running 23H2 on my primary desktop and have been trying to download the 24H2 ISO from MS for HOURS -- and all it does is have the circling lines saying "Validating your request ..." So, my guess is that I am competing with millions of other folks also trying to download the ISO from MS.

In the meantime, I used UUPDUMP to download and create an ISO of 26100.1742.

Is this the same as the MS ISO, or should I continue to wait (maybe HOURS more) for the MS download?

You could try Hasleo Win ISO Downloader.

It’s the same Multi Install ISO and size etc as the ISO available from the Microsoft website. The link is visible if you need to check or have reservations and you can verify the checksum afterof coursd.

It took me 2min 40 sec on a 1 GB connection where as the others took forever. Might work for you also.

It won't work for me. If I choose the option to select something, I get "an unknown error occurred ...". If I let it download without making a selection, I get build 22631, not 26100. Also, I can't find the ISO it downloaded, since I have no idea where it wrote it.

TPM 2.1 matters. It has to be in CPU or add-on to MB.

No it doesn't neither of my mobile workstations has the latest TPM and they run Windows 24H2 without issue.

This has all been cussed and discussed, to many time before, WHY are we talking about it again?

For a moment, forget about all the possible ways to get an ISO of Windows 24H2, and let me just say that I downloaded the ISO, from a Trusted Site, burned it to a Flash Drive using Rufus, and did a clean install. To, a new SSD, attached to a 14 yr old laptop. It did not have the SSE4.2 Instruction set in the CPU.
The install went off as normal, without ever a whimper, BUT, when the PC tried to Reboot at the end of the install, the Reboot Failed.

So once and for all, get this straight.... You can install 24H2 all you want, but the PC will not boot to Windows 11, 24H2 unless the CPU chip contains the SSE4.2 Instruction Set. That's something built into the root code of 24H2 and so far there is no fix for that.

That's not to say, that someday, some clever programmer won't figure out a way around it.

And yes, that older PC that will not boot up and run 24H2, will run 23H2 just fine. I have several of those!

Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?

Again, this had been discussed many times. All you have to do is use Rufus to burn the ISO to a Flash Drive to bypass most of the MS BS, including the need for TPM. It also bypasses the need for a MS Account, and you can even put in the Name you want to use.
The resulting Flash Drive, can install Windows 11 in about ten minutes on most PC's, without ever stopping to ask you a bunch of stupid questions.

Cheers Mates!

Included are two pic's I took, while running Rufus.
Rufus Setup.jpg

Rufus Opts.jpg
On this "Options" page, I always suggest that you take ALL the Options. Exception....don't put in your Name, if you're going to install this same version of Windows to multiple PC's where you'll want to use different names. "Alex" is kind of a pen name for me, and I use it often.

No problem downloading 24H2 using MS media creation tool but installation freezes at 59%! Had 3 attempts, disabled all peripheral's still no go. I've never before had any issues with an upgrade.

It won't work for me. If I choose the option to select something, I get "an unknown error occurred ...". If I let it download without making a selection, I get build 22631, not 26100. Also, I can't find the ISO it downloaded, since I have no idea where it wrote it.

Check the Documents folder for the ISO.

I am sorry you got an error.

I’ll contact them.
